I would just like to warn you. This is my first ever angst fan fiction, so it's probably not that good... But practice makes perfect and I wanted to post it anyway :)
Shadow stared at the stars through his bedroom window.
"And that one is called the big dipper." Maria pointed at a couple of stars on the sheet of paper that she was holding.
"Why can we not see these so-called "constellations" from the ark?" A young Shadow asked with curiosity.
"The stars are too close." Maria replied with a sad smile, "We can only see these beautiful pictures from the planet called 'Earth'."
"I don't understand." Shadow said as he stared at the blue and green planet, "Why are we not on earth? Is it not just like the ark?"
Maria just smiled and hugged her friend, "Earth is a beautiful place, but only one of us can go."
"Why?"
"Some are just not meant to live there. Some are just not meant to live at all. But one day, I hope you will make it to Earth for the both of us. See everything, make friends and live a happy life."
Shadow sat in silence as he repeated Maria's words in his head.
"Maria?" Shadow said softly, "If I go to Earth, I'll leave you behind and be happy, correct?"
"Yes."
"But, I only feel happiness when I'm with you. I don't care if I ever go to Earth ever again. If I'm with you, then I am happy. Promise that we'll always be together?" Shadow pulled back from the hug and held out his pinky.
"Shadow-" Maria frowned.
"Promise?" Shadow asked in a voice that sounded more like a beg.
Maria stared at Shadow with sad eyes. She slowly smiled and held out her pinky.
"Forever."
Shadow sighed as he walked over to his closet and pulled out a black, metallic object. He slowly walked back to his window and fell to his knees. He looked down at the weapon in his hands.
"Maria!"
Shadow slowly brought the gun to his mouth and stared out the window to the constellation called the "Big Dipper". Tears fell from his eyes and saltwater hit the ground below him. The black and red hedgehog took in a shaky breath and closed his eyes.
"Forever…"
