If you've never heard of the Day of Silence, go look at my other fic, titled Day of Silence. I'm too lazy to type out all the info all over again…

Delicate Silence

Roxas rolled his eyes as he watched his squirming brother. Did he really think his best friends wouldn't notice his completely out of character behavior?

"Sora, we just want to make sure you're okay," Riku pleaded. The brunet in question fidgeted and looked away, his head concealing the purple ribbon tied around one wrist.

Kairi watched her two closest friends, amusement glinting in her eyes and the strip of lavender fabric fastened to her own wrist hidden in her pockets. Riku really didn't get it, did he?

Growing desperate, the silver-haired teen moved back into his shorter friend's line of vision. Once more, sky blue eyes darted away as soon as they came into contact with Riku's aquamarine irises.

"Please, Sora!" Riku begged. When Sora still didn't reply, the silverette's fears only intensified. Had the brunet discovered his secret…?

Sora wanted to just speak, to say something, anything. He could see the worries swirling in the other's all-too-earnest eyes; the brunet wasn't sure how much longer he could take it.

Then, the aquamarines he'd finally looked into were diverted, staring at the floor as their owner shifted his weight anxiously.

"You're not…" the normally confident teen swallowed nervously. "You're not mad at me, are you?"

Sora shook his head rapidly, hands dropping from their faux-carefree pose folded behind his head. "Of course not!" he wanted to shout. "I could never be truly mad at you!"

Luckily for Sora's sanity, the nonverbal response seemed to be enough for the silverette; he sighed in relief and smiled gently at the slightly younger teen.

Watching from where he stood several yards away, Roxas's eyes soften briefly at the pair. When their redheaded companion glanced his way, however, his usual hard look returned.

Kairi scowled back at the blond, already frustrated by the way Riku was reacting to all of this. Really, Sora not talking for an hour or two was a miracle, not an emergency.

And what about her? She'd been just as quiet, something that was just as out of character for her as it was for Sora, and yet Riku didn't so much as bat an eye. What was the point of doing something like this if it didn't even get your crush's attention?

Sora flinched at the sound of a threatening growl emanating from Kairi's direction, glancing at the purple-eyed girl out of the corner of her eye. Riku didn't seem to notice, however; had he imagined the low noise?

Kairi smirked at the unnerved brunet. Take that, Day of Silence! She would beat that stupid faggot and win Riku's heart, just you wait.

This was supposed to be my annual oneshot for the Day of Silence. Somewhere along the way, though, it managed to evolve into a full-out story. Hopefully, I can actually make some headway here.

Those of you who loved last year's oneshot, I'll probably post another oneshot (making it a collection of oneshots rather than just one...) by the end of next week. Depends on if my muse starts singing... finally.

And those of you who read this before I re-posted it, the A/N wasn't the only thing I changed. I also changed "silveret" to "silverette" because trying to write it like the masculine form of brunette seemed awkward... it was driving me crazy.
