Blood.
Tears.
Panic.
And it all started with a simple camera flash.
Why these mysterious creatures only revealed themselves when Chip had decided to take a terribly misplaced photograph, Sonic didn't know but he had quickly learned that they hadn't done it to pose for the picture, as the pain currently shooting through his body could very well vouch for. And, with her face currently buried in his side and sobbing, Amy hardly helped with the latter.
And yet, her death grip on him at least told him that, for now, she was safe unlike several minutes before. When Sonic and Chip had returned from their latest mission to retrieve the Gate Key from elsewhere in the capital city of Spagonia they had reached the central plaza in time to notice a commotion among the younger citizens and a rather reluctant Amy as well. What had seemed like a party under the twilight had quickly turned into a brawl in a flash (literally) and Amy had been the unlucky one caught in the middle until Sonic had jumped in, the result being him taking a fair beating instead, despite his far denser nocturnal form.
Now, they were in a standoff with the last of the shadow creatures (Sonic couldn't for the life of him remember what Professor Pickle had called them) left in the darkness. It's almost neon pink eyes staring down the trio silently clashed with the jade ones glaring at it, made all the more menacing with the aid of what little light managed to reflect into the square.
Both waited for the other to make a move, but Sonic had no intention of leaving Amy's side if even for a second, not when more of these things could be lurking around any corner. Despite this latter fact, the hedgehog was fairly surprised when the creature let out a lurid noise –a mix between a howl and screech- and ran from the trio before any of them really knew why.
Luckily, the answer came a second later when a sudden warmth crept up their backs, soon followed by a ray of tawny light and a terribly cliché bird tweet.
They had been saved by the sun.
