Harvest Moon Diaries
Jack
I walked home from Karens house in a daze. I slowly made my way back to the ranch. Maybe I SHOULD go after Popuri. She was nice, actualy. She was nicer than Karen. I knew she liked flowers, so I picked a hasty boquet of flowers, tied it with some twine, and headed over to the Flower Shop.
I arrived, and gave her the boquet of flowers, and she seemed really happy. I was starting to think I shouldnt have done that when she thew her arms around my neck and practically sat on my lap. I tried to pull away from her. Then (perfect timing) Karen came around the corner and saw me. I thought it couldnt get any worse, and then it did. Popuri leaned over and gave me a big french kiss. Karen turned aorund in disgust and stalked off. In a way, I was kind of glad she was gone, because then Popuri started babbling about how I was the love of her life, and all that. I nodded vaguely, pushed her off of my lap, and went home.
Could things get any worse? I thought to myself as I sat at my kitchen table eating dinner. Well, maybe it would be better tomorow when I voted for Karen. I could imagine her as the Grape Goddess, and all that. With that comforting thought, I watered my plants, fed my cow and slipped into bed.
I awoke bright anfd early the next morning and did all my morning chores before rushing off to the town square. Once there, I walked purposefully towards the voting booth. Popuri gave me a sickeningly sweet smile as I passed her. I rolled my eyes. In my usual messy print, I wrote Karens name on the sheet of paper, and started walking around the square and talking to people.
There about to announce the goddes now. I crossed my fingers and listened as they called out Popuri's name. My heart sunk to the soles of my feet. Naturaly, Popuri was going to think I voted for her, and Karen and Ann were going to think I didn't vote for Karen. I chanced a look at Karen to see what her reaction was, and immediatly wished I hadnt. She was looking back at me as if I'd betrayed her. Whats the big deal? I thought It's not THAt important. I concluded it must be a girl thing.
Ann is walking for to me. I backed off and tried to lose myself in the throng of people surrounding Popuri, congratulating her. No go, she caught up to me. She glared daggers at me as she hissed "I thought you were voting for Karen!"
"I did!" I protested. I could tell she didn't beleive me. "Its. . .Its getting late," I stated "I'm going home" With that, I turned around and ran back to my ranch.
