In a perfect world, Sakura and Sasuke wouldn't have ended up together. Sakura would've had her first sexual experience (like, ever) with Sasuke and decide that he wasn't for her. A couple more with various guys would lead her to recognize that perhaps she wasn't jealous of Ino but more so, crushing on her. She'd settle down with a kunoichi from another village who was as powerful as her. Well, maybe settle down isn't the best word. She'd live out her days fighting and protecting the ones she loves. Of course, she'd still be friends with Sasuke. They'd grow even closer after her sexual enlightenment.
Sasuke is a different story. All of his sexual experiences made him realize that he did not, in fact, like sex. At all. But, he still needs to restore and grow the Uchiha clan. After all, he can't just let it die with him of all people. He works with Sakura to start helping women who want children but not a man by becoming a sperm donor. That way, he can still continue on the family lineage. If the family's elders were still alive, they'd absolutely die at how the bloodline was becoming "tainted" with outsiders blood. Ironically, the Sharingan becomes stronger. The inbreeding that they practiced had significantly weakened their kekkei genkai. Time would move on and the sharingan would evolve in strange and different ways. This would lead to new kekkei genkai and new clans. Unfortunately, by the time that happens, Sasuke would be long gone and scarcely remembered as the one who prompted the evolution.
Sadly, this is not what happened. A combination of guilt and obligation resulted in an unhappy marriage. Sasuke could spend more time at the village. He doesn't have to go on such long missions. But he chooses to. Kakashi notices Sakura looking just a minute too long at some girls and wisely decides not to comment on it. He already knows the answer. Maybe when Sarada grows older they can formally announce their separation. Although sleeping in different rooms make it's painfully obvious. But for now, they'll just pretend to be in love and Sakura will pretend to love the forehead taps and Sasuke will pretend to be caring. Funnily enough, only one person from team seven ended up completely happy. And it was Naruto, that lucky bastard.
