A/N: This just came to me and I just had a surge to write and this is what came out. Thoughts?
There is no freedom without you, brother
In that moment he clung to his brothers jacket, trying to process his actions. The sheer thought that if he hadn't got there in time was almost too much to bear, and suddenly Stefan wondered if compulsion was just an illusion. Was it just a test to se if your mind was strong enough? Stefan wanted to feel but it was blocked.
He watched as Michael went up in flames and then Klaus made his way over to him.
"What the hell did you do?" Damon growled. Shocked at his brother's actions and most of all ashamed.
Klaus towered over the Salvatore's, "He's earned his freedom."
Stefan let go of his big brother slowly and Damon swat his hand away, disgusted. The little brother rose slowly and stood in front of the hybrid.
"Thank you my friend." Klaus stared into his eyes with his cheeks still tear stained. "You no longer have to do as I say, you're free."
Feeling a range of emotions Stefan stood silently. He then turned back towards where his big brother once lay but the floor was empty and Damon was no where to be seen.

Klaus disappeared shortly after and Stefan stepped outside. He bent forward his hands on his knees. His brother was alive, but at what price? If he hadn't interfered Klaus would have been dead, they would have been free, but Stefan could not picture freedom without Damon by his side.
Everything was suddenly blurry suddenly and hot tears covered his vision and fell to the ground. He had to compose himself and turn it off, there was too much damage already done, if he felt it all now, he would break. Katherine watched him with a pained look on her face.
"Stefan-" She spoke sympathetically, "You made the right choice."
Suddenly, an out of character move was made as the beautiful vampire reached for him but Stefan stood instantly and moved away from her hand. He inhaled deeply, smoothing his hair and wiping his hand across his eyes.
"I'll bring the car around." She said smoothly, "Meet me out front in five minutes."
Stefan had his back towards her but she watched as his head nodded briefly. Katherine pressed her lips together and disappeared back into the Lockwood manor stopping briefly to grab a chocolate strawberry from a passing tray.
