The Yearly 365 Challenge
Prompt #192 (Dialogue) - "Stay away from me."
"Betty!" Veronica sighed as she jogged towards her blonde best friend. "Wait up."
Betty kept walking. Her back stiffened and her hands still resting against her jeans as she picked up her pace.
"B!" Veronica's said as she finally placeed a hand on her best friend's arm. "Hey talk to me."
Betty jerked her arm away and kept walking.
Veronica managed to match strides with the slightly longer legged blonde. "What's going on B?" She asked concerned. Her eyes remaining on her best friend's stubborn right side cheekbone. Trying to get the blonde to at least acklodwedge her. "Betty?"
Betty stopped dead in her tracks; she swung around to face the brunette "Stay away from me." She growled her fists clenching at her sides. Her nails all ready meeting the half moon imprints in her palms.
"What did I do?" Veroncia whispered as she looked searching into her angry best friend's blue green stormy eyes. She was relieved that her Betty was very much still in control. She tried to run through her mind on what she could have done to piss Betty off so much that Betty snapped.
Betty just tightened her palms. "I just want to be left alone right now." She spat out. "You didn't do anything Veronica; I'm just done with the human race at the moment." Her fingers dug into her palm. She began to feel the moisture. "I just want to be left alone for a little while."
Veronica kept her eyes glued to the hurt and broken blonde. She carefully stepped forward and rested her hands over Betty's curled ones. She could feel the blood slowly ooze past Betty's fingers. "Let me be with you B; please. I won't try to talk to you. Just let me be in the same space. Please." She carefully massaged Betty's knuckles in hopes that she could get Betty to relax her hold on her palms.
Betty breathed raggedly "Why do you even care." She shook her head in confusion. "Why are you trying to take Polly's place in protecting me?" She stiffened up. "Polly isn't dead. She's coming back. She's coming back." She spoke the last mostly to herself. Her fingers pressed even deeper into her palms.
"I'm sorry that you are in so much pain B." Veronica got out.
"Why do you even care." Betty withdrew within herself. "Why should I trust you?" Her eyes lowered to where Veronica's hand covered her right hand. "Why do I trust you? Why do I feel safe with you?" Her fingers slowly released the tense pressing into her palms. She allowed Veronica's fingers to press against each one of her fingers. She watched silently as Veronica managed to pul her fingers away from her palm. She watched as Veronica carefully turned her palm upward and the blood was beginning to slip down her waist.
"Oh B." Veronica whispered as she eyed first the right palm then the left.
Betty let out a quiet whine. She scooted a little closer to the shorter brunette. Her eyes locked on Veronica's hands as they slowly and carefully traced the outside of her moon shape indents.
Veronica eyes lifted to meet the fragile ones of the blonde. "Let me take care of you okay." She whispered. "Let me be your strength when you need it."
Betty searched Veronica's eyes for the restrictions … for the expections that she'll heap on her. Only there was nothing but love, care, safety shining forth.
"Let me fight alongside you." Veronica spoke in a meaningful voice. "Let me stand beside you on the battle ground."
Betty stepped closer to the shorter brunette. She bent forward so her forehead was resting against the brunette's. "Okay." She whimpered past barely parted lips.
"Okay." Veroncia repeated as she looked into the soft eyes of the blue eyed blonde whom had very quickily dug an even deeper hole into her soul.
