My Meeting

A/N: The usual, not mine and all that.

They say he's loud, outspoken and a little rude.

But he's not.

At least, he wasn't when I spoke to him. He was polite, and seemed shy, with a haunting kind of sadness that seemed to fill all he said.

We'd met by accident, a missed landing on his part, so he was slightly lost, and surprised when I told him where he was.

We talked a while, about nothing and everything, the way one does while chatting.

Of particular mention was a blonde young woman, whom he'd loved, but had never been able to tell her.

He said to me 'You humans wish you could live forever, but it really is a very long time,'

I nodded, interested.

He went on, 'If you have no one with you, forever can seem twice as long. So find someone you love, who can love you back.'

He invited me to come with him that day, but I refused. There are plenty of adventures to be had on one planet, in one time.

But, occasionally, I find myself staring at the stars, wondering what would have happened, had I accepted.
