A little fluff I made for Tenten's birthday. I know it's REALLY late so shoot me. I was lazy and didn't type it for a while. But I did originally write it on time. So…here we go!

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto…dang it!

No More Tears

Tenten gazed into the distance as an orange-pink ball of fire disappeared behind the horizon. Almost the end of the day and not one person remembered it was my birthday – not even my own teammates. She closed her eyes and sighed sadly. A fat tear rolled down her cheek. Then another. And another. They kept on escaping until she had a full-fledged rain shower pouring down her face.

She sat there and cried, her view of the wonderful sunset blurring into smears of color. She had turned 14 that day, but it didn't seem important to anyone besides her. She and gotten up early, a hopeful glimmer in her eyes, and headed out to meet her team…

((flashback))

Tenten was walking with an exceptional bounce in her step towards the training ground, where she found Neji, alone, waiting for her.

She was surprised to see the absence of their third teammate, and asked, "Where's Lee? He's never late."

Neji replied, "He is going some sort of 'special' training with Gai."

Tenten nodded and leaned against the same tree he was. "So what should we do?"

"Spar with me."

Tenten nodded again and leaned forward from the tree. "Shall we get started?" Neji returned the nod and they began to train.

After the sparring session, Tenten and Neji sat in the grass, panting heavily. Well, Tenten was – Neji had barely broken a sweat. Tenten watched Neji in anticipation, waiting for him to wish her a happy birthday. All she really wanted for her birthday was an act of kindness from the Hyuga prodigy – but never seemed to have gotten it. He never said anything, just stood up and left after a while.

((end flashback))

She hadn't moved from that spot since he left, and hunger was starting to gnaw at her insides. She ignored it and continued crying silently.

"What are you still doing out here?" a voice from behind her asked.

Tenten snapped her head around to meet the gaze of none other than Hyuga Neji. She wiped at her eyes, trying to destroy the evidence of her crying. "N-Neji…"

He came over and sat next to her in the grass like he did a few hours earlier. "What's wrong? Why do you cry?"

"I…nothing. Nothing's wrong," she tried to assure him.

Neji bore holes in her skull with his eyes. He could see through every one of her lies. "Tell me the truth. Why were you crying?"

Tenten cast her glance at the ground. "It's foolish…it's just that…nobody remembered my –"

"Birthday. I remembered, I didn't say anything," Neji cut her off.

"Why not? It would've made my birthday a whole lot better to know somebody remembered."

Neji looked taken aback. "I'm sorry. I didn't know it meant so much to you, Tenten. If I did, I would've wished you a happy birthday with all my heart."

"You…you mean that?"

Neji nodded.

"You really care that much about me?"

"There's nothing I love more than seeing you smile," Neji confessed as he took her face in his hands. "So no more tears." He gently brushed away the drops on her face with his thumbs and smiled – just a little – at her.

Tenten smiled back and stared into his pale eyes, her heart warm with content.

"Happy birthday," the Hyuga prodigy murmured as he pulled Tenten into a sincere embrace.

She hugged him back and whispered into his shoulder, "Looks like I got my birthday wish."
