Digimon
Brutality
Prologue: The Beginning
The scream that filled the white hospital room was almost unbearable for the tall, tan skinned man who grimaced in pain from both the screams of his wife and from the grip with which she held his hand. He tried to sooth her with comforting words, but these were quickly drowned out by the profanities she screamed in his name.
"Never again you bastard!" Zoe Kanbara screamed, her once pale face coloured a bright red from the strain.
"Just, keep pushing sweetheart," Takuya Kanbara managed to squeak as the grip with which Zoe held his hand was close to breaking all the bones in his hand. The doctor looked up at Takuya and then Zoe before speaking.
"One more push now Mrs. Kanbara," he said through the mask he wore. "Make it a big one."
Takuya was positive that Zoe's next scream shattered all the glass in a five mile radius but he was more concerned with the fact that his wife had almost shattered his hand. He barely managed to remain standing through the pain and it was a few moments before he registered the lack of pressure in his hand and the wailing that was not Zoe.
Zoe's hand fell limp from his and he instantly started to rub it and flex his fingers, wincing at the pain. However all this stopped when he saw the child that the doctor now held in his arms. He took a step towards the doctor who passed the baby to Takuya, saying as he did so: "Congratulations Mr. Kanbara, it's a girl."
The baby girl still continued to wail as Takuya held her, but he was merely content to gaze at his child with eyes that were filled with tears.
"I thought you promised yourself you wouldn't cry?" Zoe gasped, smiling from the bed.
"I said no such thing," Takuya croaked. He stepped back to Zoe's side and handed her their daughter.
"Koji will beg to differ," Zoe said as she held her daughter close. The baby girl stopped wailing at that point at looked up at her mother with big, navy blue eyes.
"How'd you get her to do that?" Takuya asked, amazed, bending over to look at his now quiet child.
"Woman's touch," Zoe said simply. Takuya snorted before straightening up again.
"I'm gonna tell the others," he said, beaming.
"Don't be long," Zoe told him.
Takuya ran out of the double doors into the corridor beyond. He looked left and right before spotting his four friends sitting a little way away on a few chairs. It was the youngest, brown haired boy who noticed Takuya first.
Tommy Himi got to his feet and rushed down the corridor, dressed in his college ensemble, clearly having just got out of a lecture.
"Hey!" he cried as he neared, the other three men getting to their feet and following Tommy. "Sorry I was late, they just wouldn't let me go."
"It's cool Tommy," Takuya said smiling weakly.
"So what is it?" asked Koji Minamoto, his hair tied back in its usual ponytail and dressed in casual-wear. Takuya took a shaky breath and smiled broadly.
"It's a girl," he said proudly.
"Hey congrats!" J.P. Shbiyama cried, silently slipping Koji ten dollars which the raven haired man quickly pocketed.
"So what are you going to name her?" Koichi Kimura asked, also slipping his twin ten dollars.
"You think I've got a choice in the matter?" Takuya asked laughing. The others laughed too, the group knowing exactly how stubborn Zoe could be.
"Seriously though," Koji said smiling. "Didn't you two think of a name beforehand?"
"Yeah, we did," Takuya said. "We said if it was a boy he would be called Tai."
"And seeing how it's a girl?" Tommy asked.
"Madeline," Takuya responded. "We're gonna call her Madeline."
