"So Jack, how'd you sleep last night?" Emily asked her fiancé's son as she poured herself a cold glass of orange juice form the fridge and put a box of cereal back in the cupboard. He shrugged. "Alright, Mister," She sighed as she sat down next to him. "What's up? You're acting a little off an we are barely even an hour into our day."

He warily looked up from his bowl of Cheerios, a curious sparkle in his big eyes. "I woke up."

She scrunched her perfectly manicured eyebrows together in misperception. "Did you get sick?"

The five year old shook his head and smiled a bit, liking his guessing game. "Guess again."

Emily smiled at the obviously up to no good child. "Alright…Did you need to get a glass of water and break something?"

"No. If I did that you would've heard it, silly!" He smiled, his missing front tooth on display.

"Not necessarily…" Emily thought with a smirk. "Will you please just tell me? I'm a terrible guesser!" She joked.

"Ok…" He said with a nod. "So I just wake up and it was around…well I can't read my Mickey Mouse clock but it was still night."

Emily smiled at his ghost-story-telling voice. She told him to continue.

"And I heard something."

"Oh crap."

"And it was a girl."

"Yup. We're toast. Why did Aaron have to leave for work so early?"

"I was confused because I live here with my Daddy, but then I remembered you and Daddy were having a sleepover."

"Here it comes…crap how do I explain that I screwed his father two rooms away from his?"

"I thought you were crying and you kept saying my Daddy's name." He continued.

"More like screamed…"

"So I went to my door and listened for a while and then you stopped for a little. I went back to my bed and I guess I fell back asleep, because when I woke up Mickey said…ok, I still can't read my clock, but I know it was morning because it was light out."

"So what do you need to know, Jack?" Emily asked nervously.

"Why were you crying?" He tilted his head and gave her an innocently confused look.

Poor kid.

"Well…um, Jack I wasn't crying."

Now he looked even more confused. "Then what were you doing, Emily?"

Right then Emily's phone rang. Garcia. "Sorry Jack, but I have to get to work right now." She said as she stood up and handed him his sweatshirt for the chilly October weather. "Get your backpack and let's get to kindergarten!"

"Saved by the bell…ring." She smiled and grabbed her keys, following Jack to the car. "Thanks, Garcia."
