Summary: Hiei And Kurama Experience A Human Ritual
Hiei POV
"All you gotta do is walk, stand, then say what we told you." Calmly and with almost an idiot grin, Yusuke fastened what he called a 'tie' around my neck. Humans were masochists; designing an article of clothing after a noose. "Sounds simple enough I suppose." I could feel my pulse in my neck, my hands completely unsteady.
"Yeah, and I'll smack you if you screw it up" I felt one side of my mouth curl at his sarcasm. I felt like laughing and fleeing at the same time. I couldn't contain ridiculous amounts of nerves and happiness. "You'd better, detective" He slapped me over the shoulder with his palm, "Let's let going, then."
I felt like I was walking down the Green Mile. The familiar eyes of Shiori fell on me, full of tears. Was she upset? Why? Everyone always spoke of how happy they were supposed to be. I swallowed the pain in my chest, locked my gaze with Yukina's. Her hands were clasped to her chest, a small smile and tears falling from her eyes.
...And then I found Kurama through that crowd of familiar faces. My trembling ceased, and my heart's pace returned to one of health. He wore a tunic of white, his hair looking like spilt blood down his face and back.
"Why Hiei," he spoke lightly when I reached him, "You look as though you're ready to flee." His cold, dry hands clasped mine; his smile, his scent and aura; finally, something familiar. "Not on your life, fox."
I don't recall the specific questions Koenma asked us I was surrounded by my friends, Kurama's plants, a combined room of happiness and tears. "I do" was all we kept repeating.
Keiko, apparantly due to the lack of a child, brought two silver rings to us. She was smiling; the rings were, surprisingly, engraved with our names in our own language; briefly, I wondered who had thought to find the demonic inscriptions.
"Hiei," my lover slipped the ring on my third finger, "I give you this ring through tradition and through symbolism. Because I am ready to spend my life with you, and because you have been beside me as a fighter, a friend, a lover, and my companion." I felt my cheeks turn pink. My hand trembled when I took his hand, our palms touching. For a moment, I feared I would drop the ring, say something backwards, burst into a blackened flame.
"...Kurama," I copied him, "I'm going through with this human ritual because I love you Because I've made a deeper connection with you than with anyone else..and because you've put up with more of my bullshit that anyone else would have," our teammates chuckled, perhaps at my out-of-place vulgarity, "And because I believe we're ready to commit in this manner."
Our energy melded, a familiar warmth rotting in my heart and stomach. I could feel our demon sides pulsing, joining together at the root.
And, for a moment, I found Yoko through the flecks of gold in his eyes.
"If that will be all," Koenma's voice had lowered, "Then I declare this ceremony complete; the two of you are married."
An appropriate cliche, white petals danced by us, swirling around our feet I felt Yukina's energy, cold and clean, flood through us.
And, in front of our friends, our kin, we kissed.
We faded into white.
