Written in the Stars

Plot: Songfic. Cordelia and Angel face up to the possibility of Cordy never leaving the higher plane. A/N: I've only seen the first two episodes of series 4 'cause they haven't shown the others yet, so everything after that hasn't happened in this fic. It's a songfic as I've always wanted to write one, and I thought that this story went well with the song. Disclaimer: I don't own anything to do with 'Angel' (except for some books & a couple of videos). Neither do I own the song 'Written in the Stars', which was sung by LeAnne Rimes & Elton John (incase you didn't already know that). Spoilers: Just for season 3.

Angel slammed a book shut in frustration, angry that he still had no clue as to how he could bring Cordelia back to this dimension. More than that, he was angry with himself for not telling her his true feelings sooner. But now it was too late. It had been seven weeks since they had located her and they still had not found a way of bringing her home. Utterly devastated, Angel looked down at the photograph that he kept on his desk.

I am here to tell you we can never meet again

Simple really, isn't it? A word or two and then

A lifetime of not knowing where or how or why or when

You think of me or speak of me or wonder what befell

The someone you once loved so long ago, so well

Cordelia stood on her cloud, wistfully thinking of the man she loved. WHY did she have to agree to this? What on earth made her think that she could give up Angel? Being a Higher Power wasn't even fun. In fact, so far she hadn't done anything whatsoever, or at least nothing that she could not have done perfectly well in LA. Nothing she couldn't have done with Angel by her side.

Never wonder what I'll feel as living shuffles by

You don't have to ask me and I need not reply

Every moment of my life from now until I die

I will think or dream of you and fail to understand

How a perfect love can be confounded out of hand

At the exact same moment both Angel and Cordelia found tears rolling down their once human cheeks. It just wasn't fair. They loved each other so much but they had never had the chance to utter the words.

Is it written in the stars?

Are we paying for some crime?

Is that all that we are good for

Just a stretch of mortal time?

Is this some god's experiment

In which we have no say?

In which we're given paradise

But only for a day

Angel sat in the deserted office, unsure as to whether he could go on with out her. It was as if he'd been told that she was dying all over again. He had been utterly devastated when he thought that he was going to loose her when she had collapsed on her birthday. He didn't think that he could go through all that again.

Nothing can be altered, there is nothing to decide

No escape, no change of heart, nor any place to hide

You are all I'll ever want but this I am denied

Sometimes in my darkest thoughts I wish I'd never learned

What is to be in love and have that love returned

An image of the man Cordelia loved filled her mind. Though thinking about what she had lost hurt her deeply, her memories were all she had left and there was no way that she was going to give them up. Angel was everything to the ex-cheerleader, and remembering his face was all that kept her going.
