Disclaimer: I don't own Utena.

******************************************************************************

She is the Rose Bride, perfect in every way. She has to be. She's the beautiful princess that is supposed saved by the handsome prince. That's her role in the game called Life.

"Here, have a bite, Anthy."

Anthy turns, long hair falling over her slender shoulder. A piece of fruit is pressed against her lips, and Utena is smiling. Juice slides down Anthy's chin, and Utena laughs.

"You're so strange, Anthy." Utena says, and she wipes the juice away with a slender finger. "It's a slice of peach. Have a bite."

Utena presses the fruit to Anthy's lips, and Anthy takes a bite. The fruit is warm and sweet in her mouth. She smiles.

"Thank you, Utena." Anthy says.

Utena smiles once more, and Anthy takes Utena's hand into her own. Utena's fingers are slick with juices, and Anthy puts the fingers in her mouth. Utena's hand is on Anthy's lower back, and Anthy presses her body tightly against Utena's.

"Why so clingy?" Utena asks, and Anthy presses her cheek against Utena's breast and listens to the steady thrum of her heart.

"I don't want you to disappear."

"I won't."

"You promise?"

Utena brings Anthy's hand up to her lips and presses a chaste kiss on the dark skin.

"I promise."

Don't make me promises you can't keep. Anthy thinks, but she remains silent.

Utena presses her lips against Anthy's, and for one blissful moment, Anthy is content with a lie.
