The harsh Canadian winter had driven the pair inside. But neither minded. The place by the fire was warm enough. Though, the lack of flames wouldn't leave either cold, for they had each other. Every blanket and pillow inside the house had been gathered and set up near the hearth. Buried in a nest of blankets and sat upon a throne of pillows, the two spooned. It was obvious the elder of the two was near sleep for his hands had gone still and his eyelids were drooping. But every time he realized he was falling asleep, he'd jolt himself awake once more. The first few times, Matthew had jumped slightly at this sudden movement made by his lover, but after the fourth time he had found the stubborn Prussian's acts endearing. If Gil were to have turned around, he would have seen the soft smile his partner wore. Matthew shifted to bury his nose into the crook of Gilbert's neck.
"Just sleep." He mumbled, wrapping his arms tighter around his lover. Prussia attempted to shift, the two becoming more tangled together. After a moment of shifting their positions, Gilbert finally managed to face the Canadian.
"Nein, Liebe." Gilbert protested with a yawn. Matthew laughed softly.
"But, Gil, you're falling asleep as we speak." Gilbert shook his head, eyes falling closed only to open wide a moment later.
"No I'm not." Matthew buried his face in the Prussian's chest, hiding his laughter.
"No wonder you get along with Al so much." Gilbert pouted.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Matthew continues to smile at him.
"Just go to sleep, Gil." Finally, the stubborn man gave in, the pair curling up together. Prussia let his forehead rest against his chest.
"I can feel your heartbeat, Liebe. You make me feel alive." Before Matthew could respond, the Prussian was snoring lightly. Matthew smiled, pressing his lips to the crown of Prussia's head.
"And you make me feel seen."
