The Time Lords Play Monopoly
Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who...BBC Wales should hire me...
"Okay, if you don't want to let me outside, then what do you propose we do?" the Master asked, making his way moodily to sit in the flight seat and glare at the Doctor. He crossed his arms over his chest and told himself he wouldn't like whatever the Doctor wanted to do.
"I already explained why you can't go outside. People might recognise you here, as Harry Saxon." he said. "It's only for a few hours, until she soaks up enough energy from the rift in order to fly again." He threw himself down in the seat next to the Master. "Sorry. We could play a game though."
"How about a game called 'The Master Gets To Go Outside Regardless Of Any Dangers'?" the Master huffed. The Doctor ignored this and popped up, excited.
"Oh, I know! We can play Monopoly! Nice long game while we wait." he exclaimed and, not giving the Master any time to argue, he raced down a short hallway and dissappeared. The Master thought about trying to run out the door before he returned, but the Doctor soon came back holding the box. "Here we go!" he said. "Classic set. I got it when it first came out."
"Monopoly?" the Master repeated. "You want to play a board game while we wait?" The Doctor was already setting up the pieces and cards, so apparently he did. The Master sighed and got up, mumbling, "The things I do..."
"I'm the horse." the Doctor said, having already placed his metal piece on go. "Who do you want to be?" He pushed the pile toward the Master, who was tempted to answer that he wanted to be a person not playing Monopoly and was not looking at all forward to the next few hours. He plucked the car from the pile, though, and set it down hard next to the Doctor's horse.
"Did you know I had a horse once?" the Doctor said conversationally. "His name was Arthur. He was from France, eighteenth century. Well, I found him on a spaceship, but that's a long story." He didn't seem to notice that the Master wasn't captivated by this knowledge. He said, "You can go first." as if he was.
Determined to keep an icy silence as a way of expressing his less than joyful outlook on the game, he rolled, moved forward to the designated space, and promptly bought the property. He was also determined to win.
It became apparent after a few turns that this would be easy. The Doctor preferred to pass thorugh the properties rather than buy them. "It would be unfair if you lost because I bought all of these." he said, pointedly looking at the Master's growing pile of deeds. This gesture was dually noted and ignored.
Soon, the Master had two-thirds of the board under his control, while the Doctor had far less.
"Do you even try to win?" the Master remarked, giving up on his vow of silence when there was victory on his other vow up ahead. He took another card from the ever dwindling pile of deeds.
"But I have fun. And I play fairly." was the reply, to which the Master rolled his eyes.
He won the game half an hour later, owning all but five properties and an enormous pile of Monopoly money.
"I win!" he said without needing to.
"Yes, well done." the Doctor said. "But I still think my way is better." He stood up to check some readings on the screen.
"The game would never end if we played it your way." the Master said. "It'd just keep on going forever." He too got up.
"Exactly!" the Doctor said, pushing down a few buttons. "I hate endings." He smiled and pulled a lever, sending them spinning off into time and space again. "Now, where to?"
A/N This is based off a picture I saw where they were playing different games, and I've been wanting to write it for a while. Thank you for reading!
