Disclaimer or warning: This might be considered as a yaoi fanfic, but I guess it depends all in how you look at it.
It was dusk and there wasn't a single cloud in the sky. The different hues blended together to make the horizon look calm and peaceful. While Yugi looked out his window, a few tears streamed down his face. Throughout the whole day, he couldn't get Yami, the ancient spirit of the Millennium Puzzle, out of his mind. A certain question was continually running through his head:
'When he achieves his destiny, will he leave the puzzle forever?'
Yugi lay down on his bed trying to get his mind of Yami, but was unsuccessful. His mind was completely on the spirit of the puzzle. More tears began to fall freely down his face.
"Please don't leave Spirit, please don't leave me." A faint figure stands by Yugi's doorway and happens to get his attention. He turned to Yami. The spirit walked towards Yugi's bed and sat down.
"What's troubling you Yugi?" Yami placed a comforting hand on Yugi's shoulder.
"Well, it's just, oh I don't know how to say it." He buried his head in his hands as even more tears fell from his eyes.
"You know you can tell me anything. We're friends." He gives Yugi's shoulder a gentle squeeze. Yugi looked up at Yami and takes a deep breath.
"When you achieve your destiny, will you leave the Millennium Puzzle forever?" Yami sat silent for a few minutes before speaking again.
"No. I will always be with the puzzle and with you. I'm not going anywhere."
"That's good. I just couldn't bear the thought of you leaving. You're a true friend Yami. I don't want you to leave me." Yugi looks down at his lap and held the puzzle close to his heart. Yami looked at his friend and begins to think.
'I knew he cared for me, but that this much. He treats me like a brother he's never had and I feel the same way. I could never leave him. Friends never leave each other.'
"Don't cry Yugi. I promise never to leave you." Yami leans over and embraces Yugi. Even though Yami is an ancient spirit, Yugi could still fell his strong arms around him. Yugi returns the embrace and for a few minutes, they remain that way. When Yami released Yugi, he could see the tears stream his face.
"Please don't cry Yugi." He lifted his hand and began to wipe away Yugi's tears. Then suddenly, tears start to fall from Yami's eyes.
