Anthony Goldstein toyed with his quill as he sat at one of the tables in the Ravenclaw common room. He knew that tonight was Rosh Hashana - the Jewish New Year.
He didn't come from a family of particularly religious Jews. They went on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. They went to his uncle's synogogue. He remembered a few of his uncle's sermons. What was that strange word his cousin had had for it?
He knew that everyone on Earth was judged on that night, their fate decided. He wondered what would become of the people inside Hogwarts over the course of the next year. Dark times were certainly upon them.
He remembered the festive meal at his uncle and aunt's house. Their many children had always spoken about the holiday, presented artworks with pride, sung songs. He remembered that they had eaten a kind of bread roll, and a piece of apple which had been dipped into honey. He suddenly found hiself craving the foods.
He got up and headed for the common room door.
Terry Boot called out to him. "Oi, Anthony! Where are you going?"
"Kitchen!" Anthony called over his shoulder as he left the common room."
"Boys." Padma Patil shook her head.
Anthony stroked the pear on the door of the kitchen. It turned into a handle, and he confidently swung it open.
"Master Goldstein, what is you doing here?" an elf appeared at his side.
"I was just wondering if you could bring me some apple and honey. And maybe a bread roll?"
"Of course, Master Goldstein. We is preparing it now."
Anthony settled back down in the common room, eating the bread and the apple. Sweet food, for a year that would definitely need the extra sweetness.
