Sins of the father

the prologue

No one could say that Susan Winters didn't know how to live. In her opinion life was a great thing because it came with an end. Time gave a value to everything, the less time you have the more things matter.

So for her immortals were to be pitied, as they had so much time that there was only boredom left for them as they surely by now ran out of new things to learn.

Susan Winters is never going to forget the widower who thought differently and with whom she had her son Eilian Winters.

He was a smart boy. He had her strawberry blonde hair and his amber eyes. Sometimes they looked like molten gold.

When Eilian was old enough for school and Susan could go back to her work as a diplomat, Eilian proved to have great timing and even better time management.

The little old woman living close by her home for the time she stays in Greece takes care of him, her name is something like Clotho Simons.

She creeps Susan out but she allows the old woman to take care of her son Eilian likes her and the old woman hasn't done anything to harm him so she guesses it's fine for the time being.

Susan knows that her son is independent and he has a good judgement with thirteen she doesn't have to hold his hand or cuddle with him in her bed when he had a nightmare.

She is proud of her son but she misses the day where he was so small and cute and needed her protection from everything.

Eilian is twelve when the fates visit her and ask him to hand her sons fate over to them.

Susan cries and screams and throws everything within reach at the three sisters.

When she quieted the three sisters walk up to her and hand her three things, a normal wristwatch with a wide leather strap, a pocket watch and a sword, on the hilt is something greek engraved.

Susan wants to throw these things away, she is not going to let them take her son, the only person left who is a constant in her live.

But she doesn't.

She knows she was given more time with her Eilian and for that she is grateful.

So she stays huddled in the corner of the kitchen until Eilian comes home.

Susan regrets once again that she can't tell the passing of time without a clock as her son, her everything sees her with her make-up smeared , hair a mess.

The little boy seems to understand better than she wants him to as he comes up to her and hugs her.

„I'm sorry mommy." He mumbles in her hair and strokes it.

Eilian tries to do for her what she has always done for him and Susan can't help but smile.

Still she pushes her son away a bit so she can see his face.

„Can you promise your mother something, Eilian? Can you promise me that no matter what you will be nice and kind and forgiving to humans? How I wish that you could stay this innocent."

The boy look alarmed and wraps his arms around his mother.

„I promise mommy. I promise I stay this way. So no crying!"

Susan hugs Eilian and they stay for this a while until she hears her son's belly grumble and has to laugh as she sees his dark blush.

„How about I cook us something now? And cookies for dessert, alright?"

The boys eyes light up and Susan suppresses a sigh of relief.

She didn't worry Eilian too much, that was good.

Her boy start to work on his homework as she starts to cook.

The fates have granted her a bit more time to shelter her boy from the horrors which await him and even if it's not enough Susan is grateful for it.
