havent written anything in a long time and publish it. but this gravity falls it's got me. the show it self the characters the scenes the secret codes and stuff. anyways stuff i'd like to point out. this is a Pines Family fic. no couples or nothing just family bonding. pls stan and Dipper's interactions is something i can identify with so yeah read on and enjoy.
Stan looked up from his soap opera to eye the clock for the third time in a hour. Normally time wasn't a thing Stanford Pines kept good track of. In fact, the only reason he was doing so now was that he sent the runts out to pick something up from the mall.
That had been four hours ago. It was only a 20 minute drive to the main part of town, and he knew that the bus made its rounds every 2 hours. Either they missed the bus by minutes and had to wait, or the bad feeling in the pit of Stan's stomach was legitimate.
"Gruncle Stan? We're back!" Mabel's voice called out. Stan gave a quiet sigh of relief as he saw both twins make their way into the kitchen, probably having picked up some food on the way home. The older man's relief wasn't as refreshing as it should be once he saw Dipper walk quickly to the kitchen. Stan gave another sigh and got up to follow them into the kitchen.
He walked past the two, immediately going to the freezer. He grabbed what he wanted and turned towards the kids. "Here." He said gruffly as he handed a frozen piece of meat to Dipper.
"What?" Dipper looked up shocked, his left eye already starting to bruise. He took the cold meat and placed it on his eye. "How did you know?"
Stan crossed his arms and looked out the window, avoiding Mabel and Dipper's curious looks. "I know the slump of a injured man's shoulder." He grumbled, not used to showing actual consideration for the youngsters.
Dipper gave a half hearted chuckle and looked down at the table. Mabel just watched and turned to start making something to eat, with a small smile on her lips. She knew Stan was a big softie, but it was nice to actually see it every once and awhile. Only Mabel made any noise as she pulled out a pot and strainer to make noodles. It stayed that way until Stan spoke up again.
"Should I ask how this happened?"
"I fought back." The young kid looked up at Stan with a smile on his face. Upon hearing those words and seeing that smile, the con-man felt a flash of happiness in his chest that he hadn't felt in a long time.
"No kidding!" An uncharacteristic smile appeared on Stan's face as he sat down next to the kid. "So what did the other kid look like?"
Dipper picked his head off of his hand. "He's going to have an impressive bruise on his shin in the morning!" The boy's voice so full of pride as he began recounting the events of their trip.
So a bruise wasn't so much of a fight, but it was a starting place. The shortstack was already doing better than he ever had, and it was all Stan had been asking for.
