Armor

I sat next to Zero awkwardly, his rage practically pouring out of him like a waterfall. It was so great that it made me feel uneasy and small (although I always felt small next to him, because hello… he was 6'4" and I was 5'3"), not daring to speak a word.

Not even ten minutes ago we encountered a group of bandits. My shields went down and a bullet grazed me. Then Zero went ape-shit crazy on them before sitting me down and checking my (really minor) wound.

Once he was done that, he started giving me the silent treatment. Pissed off. Really, really pissed off. I had no clue what I'd done wrong.

Finally the assassin turned his head to look at me, and I shrank back at the glare that I knew was under his mask.

"You should wear armor." He stated roughly, "Your attire has no protection. It's unsuitable."

At his words I scoffed, less nervous now that he wasn't being angrily silent "Really? You want me to just waltz around in armor like you? Are you serious?"

"Yes."

"No."

"Why?"

"I like my clothes, and we have shields for a reason."

I didn't even blink before he pulled out his pistol and shot me. Point blank. Instantly killing my shields.

"You should wear armor." He repeated now smug, before flinching visibly when I started shouting.

"You shot me? You shot me! ZERO WHAT THE FUCK! WHAT THE FUCK, YOU CRAZY BASTARD!"

I stood up, standing over him as he shrank in his seat, realizing what a horrible idea shooting me was.

"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! SHOOTING ME TO PROOVE YOUR POINT THAT IS BARELY A POINT? YOU SON OF A BITCH!

He flew a few feet back as I punched him with my robotic arm, the tinted glass on his helmet now so cracked that I highly doubted he could see through it properly as he groaned in pain.

"HOW WELL DID YOUR ARMOR PROTECT YOU AGAINST THAT?! HUH?"

"…I apologize."

I took a few deep breaths to calm myself. I'd spent years being tormented by bullies, normally it was easy for me to keep my calm. But then again, Zero did just shoot me at point blank range so my reaction was totally called for. "Good. Now let's head back. You're making me hot cocoa." I told him seriously, helping him back up.

"…" Zero sighed, pulling off what used to be his helmet with a tiny smile on his face "I'm using Decepti0n when we get closer to Sanctuary. I'll meet you at home."

I grinned "Ok," I replied, before awkwardly glancing away "…I'm sorry for breaking your helmet…"

"I shouldn't have shot you."

"You're right." I stated "…But I'll start wearing more protective gear."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Knee pads and elbow pads."
