Author's note- This is an idea which struck me a few months ago. May not be the most original one , but there will be some twists to this story. And also, I am not exactly a a fan of Merlin, used to watch it, but then grew bored of it. So if there are some mistakes, feel free to point it out.

Disclaimer- If Merlin and Harry Potter belonged to me, I would not be writing this.

Chapter 1

The Beginning

Merlin leaned back into his chair. He would only ventured out into the wizarding world once a century. But he always made sure to keep an eye on the happenings in the wizarding world. And that was reason for his contemplation.

The prophecy. The last prophecy which binded two people together, well, it was the prophecy concerning him. For him, it was to make sure that Arthur wouldn't turn out to be like Uther. For this child, whoever it was, it was to vanquish the most dangerous man born in the last century. But then again, prophecies were never the most accurate form of magic. To be more specific, it was the most inaccurate form of magic in existence. Even then, the pressure on that child when he learns of this prophecy, would be almost unbearable.

Merlin was tempted to rejoin the wizarding world . After more than a century of complete inaction, he wanted nothing more than to venture out into the new world. But he has to wait. The problems facing the wizarding world could be solved by them. The balance of the worlds was not in jeopardy. Unless the damage reached a level, that it would need his interference, he would not take part in it. Until then, all he could do was wait.

FIVE MONTHS LATER

Merlin stood outside what was once the home of a happy family. Now it was just a painful reminder of what lay ahead. To Merlin, it also represented what could have been. Had he interfered, the Potters might have survived, Harry Potter would have been raised by his parents. He would have had a happy life. And Merlin found himself wondering if he made the correct decision. But now, there was nothing Merlin could do to change the past. The only thing he could do was to look to the future.

A burst of light stopped his thoughts in its tracks. Fireworks. Wizards and witches of all ages celebrating the death, no, the disappearance of Voldemort. Though they did not know it, Merlin was sure that Voldemort was out there. He knew of the steps Voldemort had taken to avoid death. It might take him some time, but he will be back. Merlin was sure of that. And Harry Potter holds the key to his return.

But he couldn't interfere, not openly at least. He was not a apart of this current world. He was just a relic of a time long gone by. A reminder, that the old religion, though no longer at the zenith of its power, still existed and was patiently waiting for the time when it could return.

But he could guide those around him to right path. He could become the silent player that no one knew about. Merlin finally came to a decision.

When Harry Potter would rejoin the wizarding world, eleven years from now, he would be there waiting for him.

But there was a feeling that Merlin just couldn't get rid of. That his presence in the battle field would soon become inevitable.

I know that this is really short, but don't worry, it will get longer as the story progresses. And yes, reviews will be welcomed, so please do that.
