When Kanaya Maryam looked into the hollow holes where "Just Bones" Brook's eyes used to be, she saw something familiar.
She saw the sense of hollowness, of being alone, of dying, but coming back to life.
And so, she approached him.
"Hello," she said, her voice soft. "My Name Is Kanaya. You Must Be 'Just Bones' Brook."
"Hello, miss," he replied very seriously. "May I see your panties?"
Kanaya smiled. "No," she replied. The skeleton seemed almost disappointed.
"Anyway, Mr. Brook, I Was Wondering... Did You Die, But Come Back To Life?"
The skeleton nodded, gravely. "My nakama were all killed, and so was I. Thanks to my Devil Fruit's powers, I came back to life. But I was late, and my body was a skeleton. I was trapped on a ghost ship, surrounded by the remains of my friends, and I was left alone."
Kanaya frowned. She flickered her face on and off, the light shining on his bones, then disappearing. "This Is The Sign Of A Rainbow Drinker, In My Society," she whispered. "You Would Call It A Vampire."
Brook screeched. "Y- You'll drink my blood!" he gasped. "Though I don't have any blood, yo-ho-ho!"
Kanaya frowned again. "What It Means Is, I Was Murdered. By Someone I Could Loosely Call A Friend. But I Came Back To Life And Murdered Him. By The Time The Murdering Stopped, Seven Had Died If You Include Me, And One Was Half-Dead. Only Four Left. And I Felt Almost Alone."
Brook put a hand on her shoulder. "Do not worry, my friend!" he told her, laughing. "As long as you have happiness and hope, you will never be alone! I found eight people I wanted to spend the rest of my days with, and I hope you will too!"
Before she could find a reply, Kanaya was whisked away, back to her world, and suddenly, the dull gray meteor seemed brighter than before.
And then, in person, she met Rose.
