Parade
Even with two pairs of gloves on, my hands were still freezing. Could this float move ANY slower? But no; I shouldn't blame our over-sized turkey float for this…
"This is your fault, Vega." I mumble to myself, a little louder than I intended.
Tori stops waving at the patrons for a moment and looks at me with a questioning expression; her smile curving into a dissatisfied frown. "What is?"
I roll my eyes, as if I meant for her to hear me, and look away awkwardly. Apparently this wasn't enough of an answer for her though.
"Jade, what's wrong?"
"Nothing!" I reply, furious. "It's below freezing and you just had to volunteer all of us to deal with this torture with you."
"Okay- you don't want to be here, we get it." Beck states. "Just stop complaining and deal with it, alright?"
"You mean you guys aren't having fun?" Cat gasps.
Tor didn't respond, though, and I figured she just didn't want to argue about it.
"We're almost finished." Andre comments.
Thank god he was right; I look in front of the float to see the line ending ahead.
Sikowitz met us at the end and helped us off the float. I didn't know where Sinjin and Berf were going with that thing now, but I didn't care. I was ready to go inside and warm up. Now.
"Jade, wait!" Tori calls after me. "Where are you going? Aren't you going to stay and watch the parade?"
"NO." I tell her, giving her the nastiest look I could. "No, Tori. I'm not. I'm not going to sit out here and freeze to death." I inform her. With that, I turn around and continue towards the parking lot.
"Is that all?" She asks, giggling. "Jade, why didn't you just tell me you were cold? I would've done something to fix it."
"Like what?" I scoff. "'Hey everyone, let's just stop the whole parade, Jade needs a jacket!'" I mock, talking in an accent. "It doesn't work that way."
"Oh." She sighs, looking down. She pauses for a second, thinking, "Oh, wait!"
Tori takes the scarf from around her neck and unfolds it. She takes the cloth and wraps it over my shoulders; clasping the edges of the material together with her fingers and holding it there as she talks to me.
"Better?"
It was like a thin blanket. It didn't do a very good job at breaking the wind. Tori's store at me with a hopeful expression, awaiting my answer.
"…whatever." I shrug, and walk back to the sidewalk.
"Yay!" She smiles. She takes my hand and guides me back to where we were before. As we sit down on the sidewalk, I notice she hasn't let go of my hand yet.
"You're shivering." She notes.
"No, really."
"Let me fix that too then."
Before I could ask how she plans on doing that, Tori wraps her arms around my waist and snuggles herself against me. She presses her lips against my cheek; her warm breath lingering on the side of my face as she pulled away.
I froze. Not from the cold, but in shock. What was she doing? …well… whatever it was, it was keeping me warm.
"Thanks." I mumble under my breath, not intending for her to hear me.
She smiles, and leans her head against my shoulder.
