The beach was utterly deserted. The only sounds to be heard were the surf, the seagulls, and Sam's contended sigh as she lay stretched out on her stomach, napping in the warm sun.
Jack gazed at her, his eyes tracing every line of her fair-skinned body. Initially he hadn't thought of her as the type to wear a bikini. She seemed like too much of a nerd. Now, seeing her in a cute blue two-piece that matched her eyes, he couldn't imagine her in anything else. He smiled. About time she started relaxing, he thought.
Going to Hawaii for their honeymoon had turned Sam into a forgetful mess. Over the last week she had packed, felt confident she had everything, then remembered something else. Usually it was something silly like a toothbrush, but Jack could hardly go ten minutes without hearing an exasperated groan and the exclamation of "Wait, I forgot something." Finally the day of the wedding he had thrown up his hands and promised to take care of the packing. This seemed to ease her mind…until after they were on the plane.
From Denver to Honolulu, Sam swore something had been left behind. Jack kept telling her not to worry about it. Once they were in the hotel room, Jack assured her once again that nothing had been left behind.
"Doesn't matter," he added, putting his hands on her shoulders. "We've got what's important. Even if your forgot everything, hey…we're on our honeymoon." Here he kissed her and nuzzled her neck.
Sam hadn't taken long to give in to Jack's embrace. A couple of hours later, they made their way down to a secluded beach to do nothing but enjoy the fresh air.
Jack, shirtless and in sunglasses, had been seriously considering disturbing Sam's nap so he could kiss her again when Sam's eyes popped open.
"Oh, D-it," she swore, getting up on her elbows.
"Whassa matter?"
"I did forget something."
"Sam, c'mon-"
"No, this is important. I forgot the sunblock." Sam cringed. Being fair-skinned, she had a tendency to burn very easily. Unless she was religious about applying some form of protection against the sun, she ended up with a painful sunburn.
Jack wasn't worried. He pulled a tube out of his swimming trunk pocket. "I didn't." When Sam tried to reach for it, he pulled back. "Ah-tut! No. You relax. I'll help you." And he gave her a sly grin.
Sam didn't argue. Normally she hated having help, but this time she decided to make an exception.
