Sanzo!vamp fic
As far as I'm aware, the whole vamp-fic thing hasn't reached the saiyuki fandom yet. Yeah, well it has now. No warnings for this chapter. Not sure how things will go late on though. Also, this is my first post to ffnet, so say something nice, Okay? As for disclaimers: I own nothing. Period. XP
The road took them through the edges of a wood. Whether the road had been built in a straight line through the dense trees or if they had simply grown over the road was unclear. Not that any of the four occupants of the jeep would have noticed, absorbed as they were in their own company. "It's getting dark, where the fuck is that town?" "We should see it soon, Sanzo. According to the map, we can't be far away." Sanzo had decided that they would travel until they reached a decent sized town. They, or rather Hakkai, had been driving since early morning, having spent all night in the jeep in the middle of nowhere. It had been an uneventful day of dull scenery. Gojyo tapped out a cigarette and lit up; the tip glowed orange in the dusk light. He suspected the main reason for the monk's eagerness to reach civilisation was the same as his own - he was low on smokes. Oh and the saru had been quiet for a while. It wouldn't be long before he opened his mouth and began provoking Sanzo into making use of the harisen again. "Saaanzo.are we going to get there tonight, do you think?" Gojyo tapped ash over the side of the jeep and smiled to himself.
They reached the edge of the trees, the road a head was even darker, canopied as it were, by the branches above. Hakkai prudently reduced their speed a little. "What was that?!" Goku was craning his neck and turning in his seat looking in vain for something only he had noticed. "Probably just an animal or something." Something crossed their path much father up the road, just visible yet indiscernible as it caught the headlights. All four of them were alert now. Of course, there was bound to be loads of wildlife moving around out there. Still, it didn't hurt to be cautious. They were almost out of the trees when jeep collided with something. The four exchanged glances. It was then they appeared, youkai emerging from the trees.
"Nyoubiou!" Goku was the first to wade into battle. It didn't take much time for the others to join him. Unfortunately, it was a narrow road, there was little room for manoeuvre and the Sanzo-tachi found themselves driven off the road and into the darkness and the trees. Sanzo held out in the jeep for as long as possible, simply shooting anything that got too close. Until one of the snarling demons emerged unnoticed from behind him and attempted to drag him bodily from the passenger seat. He fired over his shoulder. Meanwhile, Hakkai was backed up against the bonnet, attempting to draw out a few youkai to take out in one go. "Couldn't you have just accelerated and kept going?" Gojyo shouted across to him from somewhere a few meters away invisible among the trees, with a certain humour. "Next time, I promise I will." And after a time no more youkai came. A dozen or do more victims of the minus wave were dispatched and the Sanzo-tachi regrouped. "Where's Sanzo?" Goku was looking around, still clutching his staff. "Sanzo!!" Gojyo yelled in no particular direction. He walked a little ahead of the Jeep and looked around. No sign of the monk. Hakkai and Goku had both begun to venture off the road. Hakkai using a small ball of controlled ki as a light source. "Oh great. So we've lost the bozou?" Gojyo himself began to peer into the depths of the wood on the other side of the road. "Sanzo!" Goku's triumphant, muffled cry came from behind him on the other side of the road. The kid emerged supporting a limp-looking Sanzo.
