"This is stupid," said Kanda. "Someone tell me how I lost my mind the other day and agreed to this shit."
"Come on, Kanda, it's just a friendly game of football," Allen smiled, trying to be as patient as possible. For some reason, Kanda was being more stubborn about it than usual. "It'll be just like your training, except, you know, you just train your feet."
"Wait so I can't even use my hands in this game? That's kinda pointless."
The white haired boy sighed. "It's called football for a reason, Kanda."
It had been his idea to hold the football tournament, and he wanted this to go smoothly. He had to admit that he hadn't played the game before, but how hard could kicking a ball around be? He hadn't been sure how Komui would take it when he first brought the idea up to him, but surprisingly, he had agreed. He'd said that it would be a good way for everyone to build up on their friendship. And on their teamwork, he'd added on after sometime. Komui hadn't said it, but the British boy knew exactly who he was referring to.
Kanda opened his mouth to retort, but before he could say anything, an old man's voice rung out across the field. "All captains, please report to the middle of the field now. We will be drawing lots to decide the playing order."
Allen jogged over to where the other captains, Cross, Toma and Komui had gathered. It had been his idea to divide the teams according to the different divisions in the Order. Cross represented the generals, Toma the finders and Komui the science department.
"Oh, so you're the captain for the exorcist team, aren't you? It amazes me that they'd actually pick a weakling like you to lead them, baka apprentice," a deep, uninterested voice said. Allen didn't even have to look at the man to know who it was. After all, how could he not know the sound of the voice that gave him hell?
Allen cowered under the red headed general. He was started to wish that everyone hadn't looked at him when they had to choose a leader. He opened his mouth to stutter a reply, but was, thankfully, interrupted by the sound of Bookman's voice.
"Gather around everyone, pick a ball," he said, holding out a purple velvet bag.
Four hands reached into it, grabbed hold of a ball and pulled it out. Allen's had a large "2" scrawled on it. Both Toma and his master had a 1 in their hands. That meant – "Oh, the science department's not going to go easy on you, Allen Walker!" Komui was already crying out. "Don't underestimate us nerds!" Allen could literally see the fire burning in his eyes.
"Yeah, we won't go easy one you either, Komui." Allen said, smiling.
Now, Bookman was announcing "It has been decided that the first match will have the Finders playing against the Generals! The second match will have the science department playing the exorcists! Everyone, take your places. Kickoff begins in 10 minutes!"
