A/N: I don't know if this will actually evolve into a story, but I couldn't resist writing up a bit.
My Little Parselmouth
Harry Potter took one look at his Uncle's face and knew the only healthy thing to do was to run as fast as he could. As he ducked through a crowd blocking the doorway into the reptile house, he quickly turned and ran toward the large animal area of the zoo. After passing the Lions and the elephants, he glanced at the nearby reindeer. They weren't quite what he expected, but he didn't really have a chance to consider them too long because his diverted attention led him to collide with another child.
The girl he collided with seemed to have steadier feet, as she was still standing while he had tumbled to the ground. As harry nervously looked up at her, she seemed to lack the anger that would usually accompany a fault of this sort. In fact, she smiled down at him, something he couldn't remember anyone ever doing. The smile wasn't the wicked smile of his uncle, about to punish him. No, the smile was one that lit up her silver grey eyes with happiness, only emphasized further as the sun lit up her messy blond hair. She reached her hand out as if to help him up, but it took him several moments to realize that. After recovering from the stupefying sensation of someone helping him and managing to get to his feet, she finally spoke.
"That was a fairly interesting greeting, muggles do come up with the most entertaining things."
Harry could only stutter in response, "S-s-sorry, I just wasn't looking where I was going."
The girl giggled, as if she actually enjoyed hearing him speak, "I suppose it's good that you told me that, I wouldn't want to go doing that next time I meet some muggles."
Harry nervously smiled, something he wasn't accustomed to doing, especially at someone else, "Er… yes, I suppose. What's a muggle?"
She put a hand to her mouth and gasped, "A muggle is a person who can't do magic, of course. Oh my! I suppose that's not something I should say is it? Oh no, you're a muggle yourself aren't you? I shouldn't be telling you any of this, should I?"
Harry just blinked at her, "Uh… you're saying that you can do magic?"
Seemingly forgetting that she shouldn't say such things, the girl happily explained, "Of course! Well… not much right now, but in a year I will be getting my invitation to Hogwarts. I hope I'll meet lots of friends!" She seem to regain awareness of her surroundings suddenly and smiled at Harry, "So what had you in such a hurry?"
Harry did his best to maintain his smile, which wasn't too difficult given that someone actually seemed to be enjoying his company, even if she was rather odd, "Well, I was talking to a snake and my uncle didn't really like that very much. I needed to get away as fast as a could."
Luna gasped, "Oh! How terrible." Much to Harry's surprise she wrapped him in a hug. He had only had dreams of being hugged, and this far surpassed them. "But you can talk to snakes! You're a parselmouth! That's wonderful."
Harry was disappointed as the hug disappeared and his heart began to break as he saw the girl start to run away, but she stopped nearby next to a rather strange looking man with long white hair who was mumbling something about snorkacks as he looked at some strange animal called a tapir.
"Daddy! I found a parselmouth, can I keep him?"
"I thought you wanted a snake?"
"Silly daddy, snakes are just a kind of parselmouth. It's the hissing that I wanted, not the scales."
"Oh, well I suppose it would be alright. As long as you promise to feed and take care of him."
"I will daddy, I will!"
