The shadows swirl around him like a cloak, casting

Him in utter darkness of gloom and sorrow and

Self-hate.  The lights of friendship cannot penetrate

This thick, cold shield he has put up, the walls he has

Built.  Though he longs for the warmth of the fire

They offer, he pulls himself away; unable to bear the

Pain that comes before healing.  Rather, to bear the ever-

Present agony of self-torture, a grudge long kept, a slight

Long felt, a master unforgiving.  He denies himself

The gift, to protect his shattered heart; afraid of being

Hurt, yet again.  He sees their welcoming smiles, and

Looks on them with pleading eyes, but forever will live

In darkness—unknowing—forever, will ask "Why?"

I hope you all like it, it's my first ever Severus poem! YAY! Inspired by  McSplunge, I must thank her for all of the inspiration because I could never get my poems to sound good for Severus so I always gave up. Thank you so much! And no I'm still no JK Rowling, if you still haven't figured that out then I feel sorry for you. Reviews, reviews, reviews! (Yes, that is a hint!) ;)
