A/N: I just saw Logan and my heart is very full of affection for my first OTP. This post contains spoilers for the film. Enjoy!
He fought the pain for as long as possible, willing himself to stay alive. It was odd, after centuries of a long hard life, after decades of wishing for death, that here, at the end, all he wanted was more time.
Laura's little face peered into his, her round brown eyes dripping tears. She was safe now. He held her gaze, squeezing her tiny hand in his own, and with one last breath, he closed his eyes.
For a moment, there was a sharp pain and he was filled with fear that the sins of his very long and very violent life had come for him. At once, it was gone, rolling away until he forgot what misery even felt like.
"Hello Logan," it was a voice he would recognize anywhere, though it had been many years since he heard it last.
He opened his eyes to find cerulean orbs staring back at him.
"Ororo," the name caught in his throat. He reached for her, sure that somehow this was all a cruel joke.
"I've been waiting for you," elegant ebon hands extended towards him, drawing him into a familiar embrace. He glanced at the face of the woman he had been so sure he would never see again. She smiled gently, the way she always had when he awoke from a nightmare, pulling him into her.
"Ro," he repeated her name, breathing in her scent, clutching her snow colored hair between his fingers. She was exactly as he remembered her.
"I'm so proud of you, my Logan." She kissed him and Logan realized at once that heaven existed. He caught her face between his hands.
"You're here," he couldn't remember the last time that he had smiled. Now, it split his face.
"We all are," Ororo stood up, coaxing him to his feet. Logan moved to follow her eagerly. A thought suddenly struck him and he turned, glancing behind him.
"Laura?" he asked, remembering his daughter.
Ororo smiled fondly. "I'm afraid we have quite some time to wait for her. After all, she is very much like you."
Logan looked backwards for a moment, regretful for just a moment.
"She will find her way," Ororo assured him. "And you will never be far from her. Just as I never was far from you." She kissed him again, reaching for his hand. "Are you ready?" she asked gently.
Nodding, Logan followed her.
