Jada tried not to move at all. She felt the Vida knife against
her throat. "How's your sister, Addiana?" Jada taunted. Jada felt the knife
press harder on her throat. "She misses you." Jada felt the knife fall away
from her neck. She tried to take a move, but Addiana pressed it back onto
her throat. "Do you really expect to get away by reminding me of my past?"
Addiana spat out. "I could slit your throat at any moment, you know that.
You're toying with your life." Jada grinned. She felt the knife on her
throat begin to move slowly across her neck. She felt her blood drip down
her neck.
Addiana looked at the vampire Jada. She stopped the knife, and saw the vampire's face fill with relief. "This could be my sister," Addiana thought. She knew that vampires changed their name after being transformed.
Then, Addiana realized her mistake. She had hesitated. Jada grabbed her wrist and pulled it backwards. Then, she threw Addiana against the wall. Addiana knew better than to struggle. Jada leaned over and put her mouth by Addiana's ear. "Hunters," Jada whispered, "you just can't forget your past, can you." Addiana elbowed Jada in her gut. Jada swore under her breath and released her grip.
Addiana grabbed her knife from her spine sheath. Jada inched towards the door. "I'll be back, hunter, and when I do," Jada warned, "you are not likely going to be alive at the end." Jada ran through the door, and Addiana did not go after her.
Every since she had let Christopher transform Sarah, the vampires she had hunted had used that fact to torment her. She had killed most of them, but the others got the better of her. The vampires hadn't harmed her, because they wanted her to live a life of torment. To taunt her, tease her everyday, to make her life living hell is what they all wanted. "Sarah," Addiana thought, "why couldn't you fall on the knife? How could you have accepted being what you are? What you have been fighting your whole life. How?"
