Disclaimer: I do not own the movie Van Helsing or any quotes that come from it.
---------------------
I know I should be working on my other story, but I'm getting easily distracted...By the way, for those who did not know, I posted chapter 24 on "Saving This World". This is my first Van Helsing story, and it does have spoilers for those that have not seen the movie. I hope you enjoy!
The type of work he did seemed to always guarantee that he would end up alone. Going after evil creatures that were posing as normal people did not endear Gabriel Van Helsing to the public's eyes, especially when there was often no way to prove what they really were when they were already dead.
Due to his memory loss, he could not recall what sort of circumstances surrounded his life prior to his joining the Knights of the Holy Order. For all that he knew, he could have always been alone, or maybe he had a large and loving family. He was curious about his past, but he was too absorbed in his present to put much thought into the matter.
Then, he was sent to Transylvania along with the friar Carl to exterminate the vampire Dracula and aid the remaining members of the Valerious family. When he met the last Valerious, Anna, he was struck by her fierce and fiery spirit and her determination to kill the monster that took everything from her.
Surely she was lonelier than he was.
"To have memories of those you have loved and lost is perhaps harder than to have no memories at all."
He quickly developed a strong sense of admiration for the woman. She did not seem to fear anything, not even death.
"I will see my family again. We Transylvanians always look on the brighter side of death." Her gaze was steady and unwavering as she walked to the door.
"There's a brighter side?" He remarked with slight amusement.
"Yes. It's just harder to see." Her face had a wistful expression that faded as swiftly as it came.
Things only got more complicated as Dracula continued to move forward with his plan. Her brother Velkan was forced into servitude as a werewolf, the Frankenstein monster was discovered to be the "key of life" Dracula required, and in an effort to protect him, Velkan was killed and Van Helsing was bitten.
Time then seemed to race on, as they looked for both Dracula's lair and a cure for Van Helsing. They found the lair, and they went forth to destroy Dracula once and for all. It was discovered that only a werewolf could kill Dracula, so it was agreed that while Van Helsing fought Dracula, Anna and Carl would search for the cure.
The battle seemed fated; The "Left Hand of God" versus the monster he had originally slain hundreds of years before. Van Helsing triumphed, and before the transformation was made permanent, Anna rushed forth to administer the werewolf cure.
However, even the best laid plans of mice and men go awry.
It seemed ironic, that the mortal enemy of the Valerious family was killed mere moments before the sole survivor of that bloodline was murdered by the person who killed said enemy.
He could only clutch her lifeless body and cry in anguish, grief, and loneliness.
It seemed he was always destined to be alone.
Well, I hoped you enjoyed, and please leave a review if you liked it! Thank you for reading!
