Nepeta ran toward her best friend, the person who was always there for her dreading the sight that awaited her. It pained her when she reached him, to see his colored blood staining his shirt.
As she kneelt down next to him, she heard the boy say, with tears streaming down his face "I am so sorry. I never meant to let this happen."
"Shush now… Does this hurt?" Nepeta whispered as she crawled to his side and curled up into his arms. He was too far gone, and she was determined to spend her last few moments with him as close as possible.
"I am so scared." Equius chocked out between sobs. To see her best friend in such a state, when moments later he was joking about carring up a mountain, hurt Nepeta more than anything she had ever experienced.
Curling into his side even more, arms on his bloody chest, tears now streaming down her face, she whispered back "Think of it like falling asleep. It will be lovely and everything will be better there than here." The tiny teen then pulled her knife from her pocket. "I want to come with you actually."
"Stop that. I will never let that happen. Stay, at least for me."
Running the blade against her wrist, almost hard enough to draw blood, she muttered "I love you Equius. I don't know what will happen to me when you're gone."
"I will always protect you, I will always be here. And oh Nepeta, I love you much more than you will ever know. You'll be ok, too. I promise. I would never let anything happen to you." He uttered, taking her knife away in the process. There they laid in silence, crying together their tears mixing together, forming a beautiful color.
His breath became shorter and more labored, and he was washed over with a feeling of peace. He pulled the girl closer to him, knowing it was almost time.
"Please don't leave me" Nepeta cried out.
"I'll always be here." He puffed out, closing his eyes. In a matter of seconds, the pained lungs stopped and the tired heart went to sleep.
