New Discoveries

"So you want to go to Japan to discover magical creatures for your book, but you don't know what because it's undiscovered?" Jacob repeated, dumbfounded.

Newt smiled at him cryptically. "Yup."

"So why am I coming again?" Jacob asked curiously. What use could he possibly be on a trip like this?

"You're my friend," Newt said, as if that explained everything. It must have made sense to Newt, because he continued packing after that.

They travelled with Portkey, which always left Jacob feeling unsteady on his feet. However, hearing his friend wanting his company on this journey made him feel braver; he was ready to face all the fantastic beasts that Newt was writing about.

They checked into a Muggle hotel at the front desk. They had two single rooms next door to one another. Newt refused the bellboy's help with his briefcase, and Jacob smiled anxiously at the thought of any of those creatures escaping in the hotel lobby.

When Jacob suggested they try sushi, Newt was intrigued; he was always open to new experiences. He tried it, and didn't mind the raw fish, but when it came to swallowing down raw oysters' whole from the shell, the texture reminded him of a good fluey hawk. This was an experience he wouldn't repeat. Jacob laughed heartily and said, "More for me then."

With regard to oysters, Newt said, "Once was quite enough, thank you very much."

"Even if you don't find your creature now, you have still discovered something undiscovered by you," Jacob said as an afterthought, chuckling at the silly joke. Newt smiled, which Jacob had gotten used to meaning he saw the humour in what Jacob had said.

Jacob was the more outgoing of the two; Newt was always quiet and reserved. Jacob had considered that perhaps this has come a long way in his interactions with magical creatures. Newt was lost in his thoughts; where would they begin looking for this alleged water-vampire the natives speak of so frequently with trepidation? This book was going to revolutionise how the wizarding world as a whole interacted with magical creatures, and there was still a lot to learn.

Every day in his life was a series of new discoveries. But he knew there was always more to uncover, more to discover, more to explore.

After Newt, many previously undiscovered magical creatures would be documented, and he had no clue just how many people would know his name long after he was gone.

"Time to discover something that is undiscovered," he said, turning to Jacob with a wink. Jacob laughed, and the two went off to the Japanese Akan National Park that held the lake Kussharo. This was where legend has it the water-vampire lived among the shallow waters.

The two were an odd pair to the outside world, but the friendship somehow just seemed to work; a Muggle and a Wizard, who would ever have guessed?
