Lois Lane Power Woman?! - Prologue
By
Celgress
A rough neighborhood in Metropolis. night
Lois Lane lay in a filthy alleyway dying. Her body riddled with bullets and soaked in her own blood. The plucky star reporter of the Daily Planet knew she did not have much time left. One minute she had been getting ready for a meeting with her anonymous contact who claimed to possess information on the inner workings the shadowy Intergang the next she was being shot multiple times by a hidden sniper. She should have brought Clark or Jimmy along. If only had not been so concerned with bylines, future Pulitzers and press glory in general. If by some miracle she survived her seemingly hopeless ordeal Lois vowed to mend her way. She would be less suspicious of others like Clark. Lois cursed herself as her world faded. In spite of his naivety Smallville truly was a good person. He always saw the best in people including those who did not deserve the benefit of the doubt. Clark was a far better person than she was. He'd asked her out on a date more than once but she had always turned him down flat feeling such a homespun young man from a hick town was beneath the mighty Lois Lane. While Clark might have lacked sophistication she now saw he more than made up for that deficiency in other aspects, plus he was rather cute in a big puppy dog sort of way. Her last thoughts before she lost consciousness was that she should have lived a fuller life rather than one dominated by her ruthless pursuit of ultimately hallow accolades. At least her tombstone wouldn't be empty of inscriptions.
Above Metropolis
The protoplasmic artificial entity called Matrix patrolled the skies above the city while Superman was away off planet dealing with yet another cosmic threat to Earth. Matrix was not native to this world rather her origins lay in another dimension a parallel universe. Her creator had been an alternate heroic version of Lex Luthor. Her Lex was so unlike the scheming, despicable Lex Luthor who called this world his home Matrix often found it had to believe her Lex and this Lex were in any way connected. Her Lex had modeled her after Superman once he discovered the existence of the multiverse. A titanic disaster eventually destroyed her world by not before her Lex used his dimensional portal technology to send her here where she would be relatively safe. Following her initial meeting with Superman during which she had telepathically scanned his mind she assumed the humanoid form of his fallen cousin Zara Zor-El and become Supergirl in her honor. She had fought alongside Superman and a group of like-minded heroes known as the Justice League many times since that fateful day.
Matrix was about to end her patrol when she spotted a disturbing sight. In an alleyway below her lay an unconscious, bloody Lois Lane. Without a second thought, Matrix sped down to her fallen friend.
"Lois, please answer me!" Matrix shouted picking up the fallen reporter.
Even with her enhanced senses, which included a passive bio-scan besides super hearing, Matrix could not detect a heartbeat. Lois Lane was dead. Unless she acted fast brain damage would occur and Lois would not be able to be revived. Matrix knew Lois would never survive a trip to the nearest hospital. Because Matrix had no idea how long ago Lois' heart had stopped beating or how much blood Lois had lost there simply might not be enough time for medical personnel to resuscitate Lois before permanent damage set it. There was only one option left. Matrix would attempt to heal Lois herself.
"I've never tried this on a human before or anything larger than a hamster. But like Superman says you never know if you'll succeed unless you try." Matrix told herself.
Matrix gingerly put Lois back down on the ground. She knelt down next to Lois and placed her hands on Lois' torso where the wounds were located. Matrix reverted her arms into the pink ooze which made up her body. Slowly, cautiously she pushed a sizeable portion of herself inside of Lois. If she could bond with Lois she knew there was a good chance she could restore the clinically dead reporter to life and health. Matrix poured more and more and still of herself into the unresponsive Lois.
"Why isn't this working?" Matrix wondered in frustration. Matrix began to feel disorientated. Matrix was aware if she gave too much more of herself to Lois she might be in danger herself. "In for a penny in for a pound." She said quoting another of Superman's treasured sayings.
With abandon, Matrix poured herself into Lois. Energy started to crackle around the pair. Matrix turned pink and dwindled to nothing until only Lois remained. Lois floated off the ground assuming an upright position. Her body trembled as her wounds closed. Her eyelids opened to reveal glowing neon pink eyes. A primal scream escaped Lois' mouth a second before an intense flash of neon pink energy lite up the alleyway.
Apartment of Lois Lane, sometime
A disheveled Lois stumbled inside. She had no idea how she had gotten home or where she spent the night. Her mind was as much a mess as was her soiled clothing.
"Looks like you had quite the rough night, honey. I just wish I could remember it." Lois said glancing in a small mirror which was mounted by her door. She noted her spiky black pixie style hair cut was sticking out at odd angles and her blue eye shadow had run all over her dirty face.
Exhausted Lois went into her bedroom disrobing along the way. She would put away her laundry in the morning she decided. Once in her bedroom, she pulled on her blue silky nightie and collapsed face down onto the bed. Within moments she was fast asleep.
Lois did not remain asleep for long. A few minutes later with a glassy-eyed look, she got out of bed and went into her bathroom. She stared at her reflection in the large mirror mounted above the sink as she took several steps back to better see herself.
"This form won't do at all," Lois said with a disapproving shake of her head. Her body shuddered than morphed into Matrix's Supergirl form complete with costume derived from the nightie. "Too childish, I'm a powerful, sophisticated superheroine, not some teeny bopper on her way to a sock hop."
Lois closed her eyes and concentrated. Slowly Supergirl's form grew taller and filled out. Her curves, muscles, and bust all increased dramatically. Her long curly blonde hair straightened and receded into her scalp until she sported a pixie cut, not unlike Lois' own. Her blue & red costume turned white it lost its House of El emblem and its legs becoming more of a bodysuit than a full coverage leotard. A scoop neckline formed which showed off a generous amount of tan cleavage. Her high red boots turned blue and blue gloves formed on her hands. Only her red cape remained unaltered.
"That's more like it." The new superheroine said with a confident smirk. "But I think I need a new name. Supergirl doesn't really suit me. Supergirl was a girly little runt and no girly little runt is built like I am." She ran her gloved hands over her curvy form. "I think I'll call myself Power Girl nah Power Woman. Yeah, Power Woman has a nice ring to it. Now, I'm off to save the world." Power Woman opened Lois' bathroom window and flew off into the night with a loud "wah-hoo" which woke up many of Lois' neighbors much to their displeasure.
To Be Continued (maybe)
So, what think you, my loyal readers? Should I continue with this plot bunny?
Author's Note -
Lois' appearance is modeled after her look in Superman Unbound.
I decided the new composite superheroine would call herself Power Woman rather than Power Girl because the former sounds more mature and thus fits better with how I see the character in this universe due to the influence of Lois on her personality.
