Of Laundry and Brothers

When the weather was warm, Kagome preferred to do the laundry underneath the shade of a large tree not far from their house, on the side opposite the vegetable garden.

Today was warm, and the tub was set up.

She walked past the tree with a basket of laundry on her hip. She looked up, caught the expected flash of red, didn't say anything much, but dropped her basket and walked back to the house.

Coming back, she tossed him up an apple before biting down on one of her own.

"Want to talk about it?" she said, tossing a couple of garments into the tub, then taking another bite of her apple.

"Feh," he said, just crunching on his fruit.

"It wouldn't happen to be because your brother gave Atae a play sword." She put down her apple and began washing the kosode in her tub. "You know you already got Toutousai to make him a real sword for when he's older."

"Feh," he said.

"It is traditional to give a sword for the fifth birthday, Sango tells me." She began to wring the garment out.

"Feh," he said, throwing his apple core to the ground. "If he wants a kid to spoil, why doesn't he have his own?"

Kagome looked up at her husband, and sighed. "He is."

"He is what?" InuYasha asked.

She dunked another garment into the water. "Your brother's going to be a father. Rin told me today."

InuYasha dropped out of the tree, a funny look on his face. "For real? I'm going to be an uncle?" he said as he slid down on the ground next to her.

"That's what she told me." Kagome wrung out another garment.

Suddenly, InuYasha got the strangest grin on his face.

"Whatever are you thinking about?" she asked.

"Oh, the look on Toutousai's face when Sesshoumaru goes to visit him to get a sword for his son. I bet he's not going to shove the pliers in my brother's face the way he did mine." He laughed and laid back on the grass. "That would be a sight worth seeing."

Kagome, trying not to laugh, just dunked another shirt into the laundry.
