This came to me after I was talking to my friend (who is also the guy I am ridiculously in love with, but SHHH) about what happens after you die. I thought it would make a cute one-shot.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything!
Sonny Munroe sat quietly on a park bench, taking in the peaceful, still water that lay before her. With every cool breeze, the shimmering water rippled silently. Birds flew overhead, singing loudly their songs of flight, and a colourful butterfly passed by. A tear slowly made its way down Sonny's cheek.
"Hey you," an annoyingly familiar voice said. Sonny glanced up to see Chad Dylan Cooper approaching her isolated bench.
Sonny smiled impatiently. "Why are you here, Chad?" she asked, fiddling with the hem of her black blouse.
"Just needed some fresh air, I suppose." He sat down next to her and casually put his arm around her shoulders. Sonny sniffed. "Sonny?" he asked. He adjusted himself to face her and looked into her watery eyes. "Have you been crying?"
Sonny nodded shyly and blushed. She hated Chad seeing her weak like this.
"What's wrong? What happened?" Chad sounded genuinely concerned, and it was hard for Sonny to resist.
"I just got back from my grandmother's funeral," she answered sadly as another tear made its way to her lips. Chad gently wiped it off with his thumb.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Chad said. Even though Chad always showed his egotistical, heartless side to Sonny, he couldn't deny that he had always cared about her since the day he met her.
The two sat in silence, staring at the glistening ripples of the lake. The soft wind blew tendrils of their hair around and the only sound was the chirping of birds above. The grey clouds hid the shining sun, and everything seemed dull and pale.
"Chad, do you ever think about what happens after you die?" Sonny asked quietly. Chad thought about this for a second and ran his hand through his blonde hair.
"I have," he responded. "Why?"
Sonny shrugged. "I've always wanted to know, so maybe I would stop being so afraid of death."
"There's nothing to be afraid of," Chad said. "Do you believe in heaven?"
Sonny shrugged again. "I don't know what I believe."
Chad sighed. He had thought about the aftermath of dying. But he always convinced himself that Chad Dylan Cooper would never die.
"See, my theory is that you create your own heaven. You make it what you want it to be."
Sonny looked at him quizzically.
"I think that when you die, time stops. You lie there and dream. You dream of what your perfect heaven will be like, and you dream this dream forever. You make heaven what you want it to be," Chad explained. "That's my theory. Do you have one?"
Sonny sighed. "I always thought that when you died, you would meet up with the person who you loved most when you were alive. You spend eternity with them, and that is your heaven."
"That sounds pretty good to me," Chad said.
Sonny shook her head and furrowed her eyebrows. "But what if, when you die, all you do is lie in your casket and rot in the ground?" She seemed distraught over this theory and Chad put his hand on her back as a comforting gesture.
"Sonny, no one knows. But all I can say to you right now is to live your life to the fullest. Life isn't something you should take for granted, and you should live every day like it's your last. Enjoy life when you can, trust me." Chad looked into her eyes and smiled. Sonny nodded and grinned. "There's that smile," he said, playfully knocking her chin.
Chad stood up to leave, but before he did, he glanced at Sonny and added, "And for the record, you'll always be my kind of heaven."
