Vulnerable
Flynn Rider had always taken charge in these situations. He liked being in control. No, he reveled in it. He never once let one of his many lovely companions have their way with him. Sure, he'd deftly take them to the brink, let them dangle there for a few agonizing minutes before enthusiastically pushing them over the EDGE. Then finally, he'd join them at the bottom of that steep cliff. But he never once let his guard down. He never once lost himself completely in another person. It was too risky. It would have left him feeling defenseless, naked, exposed. It would have left him feeling vulnerable. And Flynn Rider was decidedly NOT vulnerable. In fact, not feeling vulnerable had been Flynn Rider's whole raison d' ĂȘtre. Before Flynn came along, there had been many things that Eugene Fitzherbert did not like about himself. Chief among them was his vulnerability. Eugene Fitzherbert had been weak and helpless his entire life. That is, until Flynn came waltzing in and for the first time Eugene felt like he was in control of his life, in control of his destiny. He could do anything he wanted to do. He could go anywhere he wanted to go. So when Eugene Fitzherbert donned the mantle of Flynn Rider, he did it with such fervor and so effectively that he thought Eugene Fitzherbert had ceased to exist. Years later, he'd learn that Flynn Rider had been a figment of Eugene Fitzherbert's imagination.
He should have known that she would change that about him too. Ever since she came into his life, or rather he barged into hers, she had turned his preconceived notions about, well everything, inside out. And so, it should not have been entirely unexpected to Eugene Fitzherbert that she would invert this aspect of his life as well. While he was well versed in the mechanics - it was a source of pride, he had a certain reputation to uphold - what he experienced with her was, well . . . different from all his past experiences. Being a thief and an orphan, it was hard to trust people. But she had trusted him and he learned to trust her. So when the time came and their courtship ended and their marriage began, he gave himself to her completely. He did not hold back. When the moment had passed, he felt vulnerable again. Except this time, feeling vulnerable, in front of her, also felt fantastic.
