Short story written at the end of a Chemistry final last Christmas. I finally had the time to type it. I hope you enjoy it.

Jacob Black was sprawled out in the snow, staring up at the sky. To anyone who didn't know him, or more importantly know what he was, would that thought he was insane lying in the snow in the middle of December completely shirtless. He didn't care though. Anyone who mattered to him knew what he was, a werewolf.

It seemed strange to him that nearly five years had passed since he phased for the first time. Everything had changed then. Everything. At the time though he had thought it was for the worst. He had realized for the first time that the girl he was in love with wasn't only in love with someone else; she was in love with a monster.

Or so he had thought of the Cullens then. Then he had thought of all vampires as monsters, now he knew that wasn't entirely true. Only most vampires were evil.

Ninety-nine point nine percent, but the Cullens fell into that point one percent. Even though the Cullens were predisposed to being monsters, they chose not to be. The seven Cullens, well now eight, or even nine if you wanted to count Nessie (which he didn't), chose not to be murderous bloodsucking freaks of nature.

They were just normal freaks of nature. To him that meant they were good people, even if they were vampires.

When he thought about it they had given him he light of his life, his Nessie. It was strange when he looked back and thought of Bella. How much he had truly loved her, how much pain he had gone through loving her. It all had been, how would you say, eclipsed the moment he had seen Nessie.

Nessie.

She was one cool little kid. She was technically about 3, though she looked about six. She was already learning eighth grade material and she had just started be home schooled in kindergarten last summer.

Summer had been great. Bella and Edward had let Jacob baby sit Nessie often. He had taken her to the beach. She buried him in the sand and forgot about him as she had run around playing. Jacob felt like a proud older brother, playing with his sister who was the most important person in the world to him.

He knew that the Cullens still judged him, especially the blonde one. She didn't understand that the feelings were romantic at all. As a matter of fact he didn't know when the feelings would turn that way. Honestly he didn't care. He was so happy with life right now he didn't need anything else.

He began to hear little pattering footsteps crunching through the snow.

He lifted his head up and saw Nessie struggling toward him. He stood up and jogged lightly to her. He picked her up in his arms and smiled.

"Hey you," he said grinning.

"Hi Jake," she said in her tiny soprano voice.

"What are you doing out here?" he asked questioningly.

"I brought you a Christmas present," she replied giggling.

"Christmas isn't for another week."

"It's a mini Christmas present," she giggled again. Then she lifted a small red and white candy cane with a green ribbon on it out of her pocket and gave it to him, grinning.

Jacob smiled at her. Life was good now.
