To ~set the mood~ I would suggest listening to this song ( watch?v=_nW5AF0m9Zw ) whilst reading as it was the inspiration for this drabble! Anyway, enjoy!
The moonlight that falls down on her, kissing her with silvery light, a stark, yet beautiful, contrast to her vibrant red hair.
You wonder what she dreams of when her hair is draped over her eyes and she's wrapped in nothing but a thin sheet to protect her
small frame from a sudden breeze carried in from the sea.
You reach out, tentatively – you're never sure if she's really there sometimes,
so you handle her with the utmost care. Skilled, calloused fingers run over the dip in her back, tracing around bare shoulder blades.
You can imagine the pristine wings you're sure she has, protruding from her back, folded neatly between bones.
Carefully, you lay down next to her, brushing strands of hair out of her eyes. Thick eyelashes fall on rosy cheeks and a gentle smile dances upon her lips.
In a slow motion her eyes open, uncovering a pair of stunning blue eyes; it's been years and yet you still can't fathom how deep they are.
Her smile widens, her eyes are soft and sleepy.
You can't help but contemplate how you, of all people came to be as lucky as you are, to have Kairi lying beside you.
Moving your hand away from her face, onto her hip, running over her skin carefully, you listen to her soft breathing.
She rolls her head away, resting her chin on the pillow and stretches out much like a cat.
Getting to her knees, the sheet falls away, leaving her in nothing but underwear and a bra, all for your eyes and yours alone.
Nothing was ever more beautiful in that moment.
She stands; slipping into the thin dress you two had discarded in a passionate flurry earlier, and crosses the room, out onto the small balcony.
There she stands, looking out at the sea and trees and the island, his island, your island, her island.
A look crosses her face; it's sad and distant as she slumps against the railing. You move out of the bed, into the chilly night air and wrap an arm around her,
holding her close. You know what she dreams of now.
The days when she would kiss bruised arms and patch up scrapped knees instead of kissing closed eyelashes,
trying not to think of what would happen if they never opened again; she missed those days, the simpler, happier days.
You kiss the top of her head, murmur that it's alright, you're fine and Sora's fine and everything is fine now.
She doesn't respond, doesn't even flinch. When she gets distant she rarely does.
You remind yourself how lucky you are to have her. Then, reality hits.
She turns away and walks through your hand, curls back up into bed and her shoulders shudder as sobs are ripped from her chest.
Her peaceful nature is gone, replaced with the sadness she feels. The startling reality that she's all alone on an island far from the one she once knew.
Your perfect dream falls away like sand running through open fingers. You awake to the alarming darkness that envelops you and fight back salty,
hot tears and promise, promise, promise that you'll come back to her, wrap her in your arms and wipe away her sad tears with feather light kisses and
everything will be okay. She'll have you and Sora and you'll sit in the sun together and go back to dreaming.
I promise.
...Light reflects from your shadow
It is more than I thought could exist
You move through the room
Like breathing was easy
If someone believed me
They would be
As in love with you as I am...
