Jimmy smiled as he walked inside the cabin with a slight bounce in his step. He was just returning from dropping Chazz off at the airport, who was heading east for a week to visit friends. Finally, some time alone with no mind bottling, over sexed, beer drinking partner.
On the first day, nothing went right. Jimmy overslept, stubbed his toe, and burnt the toast. Rummaging through the closet later, he couldn't find his favorite shirt. It was a button down shirt with green and blue stripes. The blue of the shirt perfectly matched his eyes, which was something that Chazz teased him mercilessly over. Grumbling admonitions at his absent partner, he gratefully escaped to the skating rink to get some practice in. The rhythmic motions of his skates were always calming for him, and soon his spirits had begun to lift. At least they had until he landed a particularly difficult jump, and realized that the first thing he did afterwards was look for Chazz. His good mood dimmed, he left the ice and practice for another day.
The next night he went to see a movie with Katie. With only an hour left until he had to leave to pick her up, his hair was completely unmanageable. Struck by sudden inspiration, he snagged the bottle of Mane and Tail Shampoo and stepped into the shower. Later, while exchanging good night kisses, Katie ran her hands through his hair and exclaimed over it's softness. Jimmy blurted out the first thing to come to mind and quickly escaped back to the car.
On the third day while eating spaghetti at dinner, Jimmy spilled some on his shirt. Since he still couldn't find his favorite shirt to change into, he opted for one of Chazz's instead. Wearing it later that night he felt strangely comforted. He dreamed of skating, of leaping into the air, and of being caught and held close.
The next day, it only seemed natural for him to put on another of Chazz's shirts rather than his own. But soon that was no longer enough, and Jimmy settled in to watch a tape of one of their practices. It was just to look for areas of improvement and to get ideas for new routines, or at least, that's what he told himself.
Later that afternoon, Chazz pushed open the door, lugging his suitcase along with him. He heard the TV playing and made his way to the den, only to come to a stop in the doorway. A tape of their practice sessions was playing, but that wasn't what pulled him up short. Jimmy lay asleep on the couch, wearing one of his t-shirts, cradling a picture of the two of them.
He lingered a moment, watching the tableau in front of him but the heaviness of the bag he still carried dissuaded him from waking his partner just yet. However, the resulting thud from said bag being dropped on the bedroom floor did the job for him.
He was distracted from rummaging through his belongings when a hesitant voice said, "You're home early."
Turning, he looked at Jimmy and smirked, "I knew you'd be lost without me."
"I was not!" Jimmy flushed in embarrassment and dropped his gaze, noticing for the first time exactly what Chazz held. "Hey, that's my shirt! I've been looking everywhere for that!"
"Shirt, what shirt?" Chazz asked as he tossed the shirt under the bed and looked around innocently. Jimmy stared at him for a moment, and then stepped forward, wrapping both arms tightly around him.
Chazz sighed and returned the gesture, pressing his cheek against the top of Jimmy's head. Nuzzling his hair, Chazz smiled happily as he took in the familiar scent. They stood that way for a long moment enjoying the feel of their bodies pressed against each other. "I missed you too Princess."
