A/N: This story is for owluvr's Honeydukes Competition in HPFC! I hope you enjoy!
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Harry Potter; J.K. Rowling does.
Jelly Slugs- Jelly can be a preservative. Just like the Golden Trio tried to preserve the world for their future children. So the challenge here is to write something about the NextGen.
Rose was waving goodbye to her mother, who was wiping her eyes, smiling as her daughter rode away on the Hogwarts Express for the first time.
Rose was so ecstatic to be going to Hogwarts, she'd known her parents were wizards for as long as she lived, she'd seen pictures of her Mum, and Dad, Uncle Harry and Aunt Ginny on their broomsticks playing what they called Quidditch. Dad had told her she was a natural, unlike her Mum. Then Mum hexed him.
Rose was lost in thought when she heard a familiar voice shouting her name.
"Rose, ROSE!" Albus Potter shouted. He shook her shoulders violently, trying to get her attention.
"WHAT!?" Rose shouted back, throwing his hands off of her shoulders, sick of being shaken.
"I'm going to another train car with some boys I just met. There's a group of girls with them, you should come with me," Albus told her.
Albus had always been like this, always helping her out, trying to get her nose out of her book and out into the world. Without an answer, Albus grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the train car. They passed some boys snickering, and Rose immediately smoothed down her hair. It got SO bushy sometimes.
They passed a train car with some older students, maybe in 4th year, and in another train car, their cousin Victorie talking to her friends.
Albus introduced her to the children in the train car, but she only recognized Scorpius Malfoy. Her mind wandered away aimlessly again, as it did quite often. She vaguely listened to their conversation until one of the girls asked her what was wrong.
"Oh, nothing, just… daydreaming," Rose told them.
She engaged in conversation, but not for long. She poked Albus on the knee and said she was going to go read in another train car.
"Oh, come on Rose!" he told her, "They'll be plenty of time to read when we get to Hogwarts."
"No, really, I want to read," she protested, walking down the hall and back to the train car she was originally in.
She picked her book from off of the floor, and opened it, beginning to read, when she heard a slow creak. It was the train car door. Scorpius Malfoy was standing there, staring at her.
"What are you doing here?" she asked him. If she expected anyone to come back to talk to her, she thought it would be Albus, trying to pry her away from her book again.
"I just came to see how you were doing," he answered.
"Well, I'm perfectly fine, thank you," she told him coldly.
"What book are you reading?" Scorpius said.
"Nothing you would know…" Rose told him, flipping the cover onto her lap so he couldn't see.
"Wait," Scorpius told her, "I might. What's it called?" Rose sighed.
"Golden Trio. It's a biography about my parents and my uncle. They won't tell me everything that happened, but I find ways to figure it out," she said, waving the book in the air.
"Same with my parents. I've read it, too," he told her, taking a seat.
The two of them spend the rest of the train ride conversing about the past, about the Battle of Hogwarts, about their parents, and about Voldemort. Somewhere in the middle of one of her sentences, Scorpius interrupted her.
"Wait, Rose, look outside!"
She stood up, anxious to see what Scorpius was looking at when she saw a large castle in the distance, not too far away.
"Wow," Rose said, "We're finally here."
"Hogwarts."
