It had been a week since they met, and Bella felt a surging, unfamiliar longing consuming her, irreversable, undeniable. The girl would have to confess her love for him, the one who had been so vital to her existence - Edward, she had called him. They met by the Lake; he was as silent and indifferent as always, though she hardly noticed his discomfort. Marriage and children raced through her mind: lovely children, with his body and her face. If he denied her, she would die in her solitude.

"Edward... I can't live without you. You are my world, and I cannot breathe without seeing your face in the morning. Your presence is like the sun, illuminating my life in a dark world. It's written in the stars! Don't deny it! I would die if you left me; I'm noting without you! Marry me! We can have a family and grow old together! I would be your slave, if you would say that you loved me one time. I would die for you! My life is only meaningful if you exist, and I would surrender everything else for a single kiss! Will you elope with me?"

The squid's narrowed. He did not speak. Bella's chest heaved as her heart skipped a beat - was her love unrequitted? Was she not beautiful enough, intelligent enough, sincere enough to capture his glance?

Edward... What's wrong, my love? Whatever it is, we can fix it. It's all my fault! Is it communication, or do I need to lose weight, or am I talking to another guy and making you jealous? Whatever it is, I can work on it! Don't reject me! I'll die without you! Edward..."

The squid leaned forward in a way that seemed tender (how graceful he was!). Our first kiss! She closed her eyes as he moved nearer to the lake shore, opened his mouth, and... swallowed her. Bella Swan was dead at the hands of her squid lover. The squid relaxed, basking in the first silence he'd known since the girl had arrived.

"My name," he growled, "is Jacob."

Not my best, I know, but I needed to finish it. For Conversation Hearts, who requested this AGES ago.
