Hey everyone. This story was written for Charms: Dark Charms Task #11 Geminio: Write about twins. (Restriction - cannot use Fred and George). The only other set of twins that I could think of in the Potterverse is Padma and Parvati Patil. I decided to look at how Padma felt when Parvati was sorted into Gryffindor and not Ravenclaw because they seem like they'd be the sort of twins that are close to each other. So without further ado I hope you enjoy Separation.
"Ravenclaw!" the hat on Padma Patil's head booms out loud to the Great Hall. She's happy to have what she already knows confirmed. That she's smart and she belong with like minded people. She get up off the stool that she had been seated on to be sorted with a new sort of purpose as she walks towards the cheering table. Now all she had to do was wait for Parvati to join her.
She hears a kind voice welcome her and she answers with a thank you on auto pilot. She's not really paying attention to anyone around her as she watches as the P names are slowly dwindling until it's Parvati's turn.
"Is that your sister?" one of the girls in her year asks.
She nods as she watches Parvati go up to the stool of judgment and sit. Time seems to almost slow down as the Professor raises the Sorting Hat and places it on Parvati's head. Everything goes silent or least that is what it feels to Padma. Everyone watches to see where the new student will be placed. In which Hogwarts family Parvati would go.
It's taking to long for Padma's liking. It hadn't taken this long for her to be sorted. Why was Parvati so difficult for the hat to sort? She watched her sister and it seemed like Parvati was talking to the hat. She blinks in confusion as she reads what Parvati's lips are saying. And stab of hurt goes through her as she realizes her twin just asked the hat not to put her in Ravenclaw.
"Gryffindor!" the Hat's voice is like a knife through her heart.
She watches sadly as the one person who has been with her through everything walks away from her. She tracks Parvati's frame to the Gryffindor table and feels a jealous pang as another girl in their year starts up a conversation with Parvati. It should be them together in Ravenclaw. Not them apart in different houses.
She feels like crying but puts on a happy face instead. Crying could wait until she was safely behind the door of Girl's Dormitory and no one could see. After all now they could compete with each other without hurting their houses. And that would be half the fun of this situation.
I hope you all enjoyed Separation.
