There are quite a few things in life that Natsu had never understood. Like why Igneel had left him. Or why Happy was blue. But the thing that perplexed Natsu the most, was why Lucy never left him. He had been rude, mischievous, and downright vile.
Yet that all changed when he had met Lucy. Lucy had somehow changed him from being a delinquent, to becoming a being a semi respectable man. He still had a long way to go, but he was better than he once was. She had saved Natsu when he was struggling after losing his father. She was the light that pulled him back from the darkness. And he would never forget that.
Natsu's exhaled into the night air, his breath fogging in the freezing air. Natsu looked around nervously, his heart thumping in his chest as he waited for Lucy to show up. He recently had been feeling this weird, and warm stirrings in his chest. He at first had panicked, thinking that he had caught Lucy's weirdness, but now he had decided it wasn't weird. In fact, Natsu had admitted to liking the feeling.
The crunch of snow snapped Natsu from his musings, his head snapping up. Natsu's breath caught in his throat, his greeting dying out on his tongue. He swallowed nervously, rubbing his sweaty palms on his pants. Lucy was walking toward him, and she looked stunning. Natsu tugged nervously at his collar, ignoring the cold snow that snuck into his collar. Ignoring how her pink lips stood out on her face, or how her eyes looked like molten chocolate, he stepped towards her.
"N-natsu! It's f-freezing out here!" Lucy pouted, wrapping her arms around herself in a attempt to try and keep herself warm.
The snow kept falling, and Lucy frowned as Natsu kept looking at her.
"Natsu? Is something wrong?"
She averted her eyes, a small blush decorating her cheeks as he kept intently staring her. His eyes suddenly flashed as he grinned, moving closer to her. "Sorry Luce! But there is something that I thought you might want to see!" Natsu grabbed her hand, his sharp canines peeking out as he grinned, pulling her along the snowy path.
"Natsu! You idiot!" Lucy whacked his arm, but couldn't stop herself from smiling as he pulled her along. Soon the path panned out, a crystalline lake stretching out before them, the stars reflected on the surface. Lucy's breath caught in her throat, her hand slipping from Natsu's grasp.
"N-natsu… How?"
Natsu turned around, his warm breath gently puffing against her face. "I knew you liked the stars Lucy. So I figured you'd love this place." A sharp wind suddenly blew up, snow swirling around the two as they stared at each other. Lucy suddenly shivered, her voice shaking. "Thank you Natsu…" Suddenly she gasped as Natsu wrapped his arms around her, his breath tickling her neck. "S'ok Luce. I can never repay you." Natsu tightened his grip, holding her close. Lucy blushed profusely, her eyes looking down at his chest. Her arms were held to his chest as she looked up at his eyes, noticing how bright his eyes looked when they reflected the stars. Natsu licked his lips, his eyes not breaking contact with Lucy's. And it was in that single moment, with snow falling all around them as if the stars themselves were fluttering down, that Natsu realized he loved Lucy Heartfilia.
