Tony and Pepper stood in front of Tony's plane as he prepared to leave for China. Rhodey had said his goodbyes and gone home to give the two some alone time.
"Are you sure you wanna go to China? I'll reeallyy miss you..." Pepper asked innocently. Tony smiled.
"Yeah, I have to look for my dad. But I'll miss you too..." Tony responded.
"You'd better call me every night, capiche?" Pepper said sternly, pointing a finger at the boy. Tony chuckled.
"I promise. You won't go a single day without hearing my voice, okay?" Tony said. Pepper smiled and wrapped her arms around Tony's neck.
"Good luck in China! Come back as soon as possible, got that?" Pepper said.
"Eye eye, captain..." Tony said. He hesitated to board the plane as he stood there with Pepper. How would he be able to go so long without seeing her?
"I-ill really miss you, you know..." Tony admitted, shyly and nervously rubbing the back of his neck. Pepper smiled.
"Well you better hurry up and get this trip over with then, huh?" She said sadly, yet trying to seem happy.
"I'll be waiting for you to get home." She said.
"Goodbye, Tony..." She said, wrapping her arms around his muscular torso once more before he left for real. Tony held her tight before the pilot motioned for Tony to climb aboard. He walked onto the plane and sat down, watching Pepper get smaller and smaller as he got farther and farther from her.
~...~
Pepper sat in her room, laying across her bed and staring at a picture of Tony. She sighed deeply. Tony had been in China for a month, and she'd missed him terribly since the minute he'd left. She needed to at least hear his voice again. So she picked up her phone and dialed Tony's cell. It rang for a little bit before Tony finally picked up.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Hi Tony! How are you? How's China? When are you coming home? I miss you! I-" Pepper babbled.
"Now, aren't I supposed to call you and not vice versa? Wasn't that the deal?" Tony said teasingly.
"Well I couldn't wait any longer! You took too long to call so I did the honors. How's China?" Pepper explained.
"Alright, alright, you got me there. My bad. China's cool and all, but I still haven't found dad...but I'm not done looking." Tony said with a chuckle.
"Well you better come home soon! I miss you!" Pepper said hopefully.
"Yeah, I miss you too..." Tony said. He paused. He'd been in China for a month. How much longer could he stand to be away from her?
"...hey, I'll be home next week." He said suddenly. Rummaging China for Gene...didn't seem as worth it as it did to go back home to see Pepper again and track him down from home. It just seemed like a wild goose chase by this point.
"Oh you will? That's great, I can't wait! I've been so bored without you...oh, give yourself a hug for me, okay?" Pepper said excitedly. Tony chuckled.
"No prob. See you in a week." Tony said before hanging up. He chuckled to himself.
Just then, sitting alone in his hotel room, he realized how much he missed her hugs. He missed her warm embrace. He missed hugging her tight and secretly sniffing her bewitching strawberry scent. He missed secretly listening to her babble on and on about random things, because he liked hearing her voice. He wished he'd decided to go home tomorrow...he didn't want to spend another day away from her. Yet at the same time, he wanted to find his father.
I guess that's what patience is for…
So yeah, I realize I've been kind of dead for like, a month (at least) and I wanted to come up with a good one-shot idea, but I couldn't…good thing I realized I had this sitting on my Evernote account for the past…well, forever…yeah. I think this sort of idea's been done before, but eh…I think its still good…
But anyways, enough of my endless jabbering…review!
