Maria was having a very bad, long day.

She had at least six large mounds of paperwork on her desk, all of which concerned matters of utmost unimportance. She had overslept, so the Colonel was being a royal smart alec. And, most annoyingly, Denny had not turned up yet.

She angrily stabbed her pen at the offensive mountains of paper, and tried to concentrate long enough to register what she was doing. Which was, it turned out, not very much – correcting Riza Hawkeye's spelling mistakes. Lieutenant Hawkeye was renowned for her fanatical grammar tendencies, so it was unlikely to take her very long to go through her military documents. She flicked through, trying to register any grammar failures in what she was reading and at the same time trying to be subtly nosy about the matter of Hawkeye's paperwork.

She was on the third pile when a note card, slipped in between the sheets of paper, fell onto the floor.

Curious, she bent down to pick it up, but the Colonel made it before her. Meeting his gaze, she noticed that he had turned bright red. He turned on his heel, marched over to the Lieutenant's desk, and nonchalantly opened a desk draw to slide it inside. By this point, he was now a very bright red.

Maria smiled. It wasn't just her and Denny, it seemed, who were trying to keep a secret from the rest of the military.

A/N Well, I did promise a fluffy Royai fic, and I'm sorry it's so short BUT I have loads of work to do at the moment, in the foul form of Geography coursework

Congratulations to agrajagthetesty - she won a schoolwide poetry competition with a poem from her AlWin fanfic, Colours. It is well worth looking up, and she writes splendidly. She is also a lovely person, and has been encouraging me with my fics. Agrajag, I salute you! ;P
