Author's note, because the author doesn't like abbreviations: This is based off the anime, not the manga. I also used Yagami Raito as opposed to Light Yagami, because that's the Romanization of what was actually written down by Ryuk.
He walked without quite looking where he was going, reading the rules of the Death Note, that elaborate prank.
.
.
He ran past the spot where he had first learned of the Death Note, all those years ago, where he was a young, innocent high school student, top of the nation.
.
.
He believed it to be only an elaborate prank, but he could not resist trying it once… just once…
.
.
He could have almost sworn to have seen his past self walk by him, not noticing the dying figure running, his life soon to be consumed by his unending goal for a heaven on Earth, without crime, and he the God of that world.
.
.
He must have been chosen by someone, if not the shinigami. How else could the Death Note have fallen into the hands of the only one who had both the courage to use it and the innocence to use it for good? The only one fit to wield the Note, the only one fit to be the God of a perfect world.
.
.
He knew he was going to die, but some primal instinct kept him moving, fighting when there was no hope of winning. He did not regret what he had done. He was worshipped, he was the savior of the planet, and without him humankind would again fall into the depths of crime, hate, and despair.
.
.
It didn't matter if he went to Heaven or Hell, for he was God.
.
.
The shinigami watched from above, and killed God with two words.
.
.
He would never lose, and the shinigami would never kill him. He would forever own the Death Note, forever rule.
.
.
Yagami Raito.
.
.
He had conquered L, conquered Mello. Didn't that prove that he could conquer Near too, and with that conquer the world?
.
.
He felt his heart seize, and stutter, and stop.
.
.
Only he could do it, and he changed the world.
.
.
He died, and the sun continued to shine, life continued to go on.
.
.
Curtain falls. Exit stage.
