She knew what she was getting into when she decided to fall for Hyuuga Neji. Despite that fact, she still hurt. Tenten knew there was absolutely no way Neji would be allowed to marry outside of his clan. She gave him her heart anyway.
Now, she sat in the back of the church clad in a sunny, yellow dress, trying her hardest to keep her tears in check. Tenten forced a watery smile on her face as she watched the bride walk down the aisle toward Neji. Her name was Hyuuga Akemi and she was, as her name said, beautiful. Tenten wanted to hate her, to spite her, to loathe her, but, she couldn't. Akemi had a beautiful heart and Tenten, no matter how hard she tried, just couldn't hate her.
The bride reached the groom, and the vows began.
"I do," Neji murmured, looking everywhere but at Tenten. He knew it would only make the pain ten times worse.
"I do," Akemi said, smiling brightly at Neji. Neji, despite his heartache, forced a small smile back.
Tenten's heart broke into pieces once she saw him smile. Smile. That was something he only reserved for Tenten. She smiled bitterly as tears leaked out. He's not mine anymore, though, is he?
"You may now kiss the bride."
As Neji reached forward and kissed Akemi, the crowd burst into applause. Amidst all the cheering, nobody noticed as Tenten completely broke down and ran outside. Nobody but Sai.
She ran blindly but still somehow ended up at the training spot where her and Neji constantly sparred and trained. Tenten leaned on the nearest tree and let her tears fall.
Someone touched Tenten's shoulder and she whipped around, her fist poised to punch. When she noticed it was Sai, her fist fell, and she leaned into him instead. Sai wrapped his arms around Tenten and rubbed her back as she sobbed into his shoulder.
They stayed that way for several moments until Tenten's sobs had turned into whimpers and sniffles.
"It hurts, Sai," she whispered.
"I know, Tenten, I know. I'll be here, though, for you. Only for you."
Tenten lifted her head up and smiled brightly at Sai before leaning against him again, this time, smiling contently. She would move on.
