To rebuild things that really matter
Barry stays by the door, watching her as she works in her, now, new lab. She is unaware of his presence, which gives him the opportunity to stare at her with that smile on his face. That smile. The one that he wore only for her.
How he felt, he didn't even know. Happy, of seeing her for the first time after almost six months. Guilty, because he knew it was his fault that she left S.T.A.R Labs. And more importantly, because he felt guilty for Ronnie's death. He was gone, again, dead this time, and it was his fault. He should have done more. For him. For her.
But there was something else too. It was a feeling that he hadn't had in a long time. He was anxious. Anxious to talk to her, to see how she would react.
What if she didn't want to see him? What if she couldn't forgive him? He wasn't sure if he could do this, be the Flash, save the city, without her. She said once that she would no longer patch him up every time he broke something. It was a lie, of course, but in this moment, if she said that again, he would believe it in a heartbeat.
He didn't have time to keep thinking because, feeling his presence, she turned around. And the world stopped. Even for him. The fastest man alive.
